Considering if I shot someone from more than about 50 yards I would probably be typing this from prison.... I prefer an old police trade in riot shotgun myself. Parkerized Ithaca 37 for me.

Well when I see thugs proudly sporting their own ARs and AKs, why not level the playing field? Plus I like to bust hogs and coyotes when I see them

Mines stays on the center arm rest unless I'm going out of town than it is hid in the back seat. Most of the times my elbow is touching it. I want it close for hogs and coyotes.

Handguns are used in most crimes. The vast majority occur in darkness and when firearms are used the vast majority are used at close range I think inside of 15 feet if that statistic is still good..

Your most important weapon is your sidearm which hopefully won't be back at the truck.

If you think you are going to get into a shootout with an active shooter you are much more likely to get struck by lightening.

If you think you are going to stop a robbery that's ok too but someone else's money is not my problem and not worth my life. I'm not getting into a shootout at a gas station parking lot or liquor store or.... ain't mine. My kids need me alive.

I can't think of anything more decisive inside 50 yards than a load of buckshot.

AR's are good for shooting hogs. You ain't gonna be outgunned with a shoty though.... in about any scenario in any kind of urban environment. Gas Station, Wal Mart. If you had to go into a school or church to stop an active shooter... again, shotgun at close range is not out gunned by any AR-15.

Unless you think you are going to get involved with an active shooter in a hay field or zombies.

I have been known to carry an underfolder AK myself in the truck... I'm just putting the argument out there.

With all do respect, and I do mean that, Im gonna do what I wanna do regardless of your hypothetical scenarios. The only reason I need to have one in the backseat is because I can. I'm not trying to go all Rambo like you're suggesting. I just wanted to know who carries one safely and the reasons why I'm carrying one shouldn't matter to you.

Re: Anyone carry an AR in their vehicle daily? - 10/02/18 09:44 PM

My main reason for keeping an AR in the truck was when I worked downtown. There were a couple time - the last presidential election being one - I thought I may have to fight my way out of the 'hood. Call me paranoid or whatever, but I wanted as much firepower as I could safely secure in my truck when parked downtown.

I would love to but afraid to leave it in my truck overnight. Too much trouble
to bring it in and carry it out every day.
My 442 or LCP I just stick in my pocket.

Palmetto State armory has a case and 7 pmags. That case is very nice. I liked it so much, I ended up getting another one.

So, when you go to take the gun out, you're pointing it directly into your torso? Why not turn it around where it's pointed away from you when you go to retrieve it?

In a hard case unlatched under the back seat. 2 10 rd and 3 30 rds, 1 with green tips, rest with fmjs and a bucket of 300 fmjs beside it. Smith Wesson sport with 4-16x50 and sightmark reflex sight on the side at 45 degrees. I leave it unloaded because it’s not going to be my go to before my pistols. I use it all the time to just have on the seat riding through the woods.

I agree with you.

My 6.8 Stag lays in the back seat (or floor board, or propped up in front floor board) for the duration of gun hunting season. However since I was working from home remotely (and now "professional college student" ) I didn't have to worry about it getting stolen. Most of my trips to town were just for a bite to eat or to pick up something. If I was going to be away from my truck for an extended amount of time (grocery shopping) I usually took it out and left it at home. I'd rather have a pistol in center console. I can stomach losing a $300 pistol a lot easier than a $700 rifle + $200-300 in mounts and optics.

I have a PSA AK47 side folder coming real soon though. I think it would fit up under or behind the rear seat nicely. I might look into a locking mount. It's the only way I'd consider leaving a rifle in my vehicle full time.

I actually flipped it the first time I went to access it without flipping the seat up. That way I could grab it with the seat in the normal position by reaching under the seat.

There are times I do and times I don’t. It’s up to others to figure out when I don’t. Marathon seat covers can be made to hold two long guns or a folded stock AR to the backrest of the trucks front seat

Re: Anyone carry an AR in their vehicle daily? - 10/24/18 06:49 AM

Not many folding stock AR's out there. I know someone makes an adapter or specially designed stock but last I checked it was over $200 and can't be fired when folded.

I have one of these coming with a folding stock that should be getting to the LGS Thursday [Linked Image]

What he failed to mention was the ride along gunner in the empty seat.

Re: Anyone carry an AR in their vehicle daily? - 10/29/18 12:55 AM

Great topic....fun read! I do not have an AR in my vehicle but my buddy just started carrying one under his back seat too. Fits real nice. I build lots of ARs for friends. Many of mine are 10" or less which makes them very portable.
I like the thought of having something that will get you home if the sheet really hits the fan. Any one remember Reginald Denny? He was the truck driver who was on tv during the LA riots....yep, the guy who was being beaten and bricks thrown at his head!!! In this day and age, I think we all could use a little more than just a sidearm. However I do agree that your sidearm will probably be your first form of defense.
