For Levergun Addicts - 04/16/18 02:19 PM

Had John Gallagher hook up my Marlin 1895SBL. Had the barrel chopped down to 16" recrowned and threaded for suppressor. Had him also make me a thread protector slash muzzle brake while he was at it. Chopped the tube back to an offset tube and moved front site back. I already had him clean up the action and trigger along time ago. This thing turned out amazing! Shoots great. The silencerco hybrid does a great job keeping her in check. Full house loads are about like a 22lr or 22 mag unsupressed with the recoil of a 30-30. Subsonic 405gr loads over 13 grains trailboss moving about 1017fps sound like a pellet gun.... that is until it smacks the target. When that bullet hits, the impact is louder than the shot. Irons are sighted in for 405gr subsonics and scope is on qd weaver rings and sighted in for 300gr hot loads. Now I am just waiting on a custom sling (leather with my name on It, always wanted one) and leather buttstock shell holder. Once it is 100% complete I will make up some nickel plated loads and do a real photo shoot. Hands down my favorite rifle.

thanks on the scope; i have admired that model scope many times in academy. i meant the mount itself, not the rings. skinner, maybe, or XS? i really want to keep my 1894 .44 mag dressed fire sights only, but my 66-year-old eyes are having a hard, hard time. i'd be good to 50-60 yards, no more. ghost ring is a no go ...

Oh sorry. Yes the mount is the xs lever rail. They make it in several different variations but this one is the full rail. I love shooting irons, but the scope does help in low light like morning or evenings when something steps out right on the edge of the field at 100yds.

thank you, sir. i like the idea of the front mount going into the rear sight dovetail; it's a nifty design. does mr. gallagher have a web site?

He used to but I don't think he uses it much anymore. His son Isaac has a Facebook page set up for them though. I believe their phone number is there. If not pm me and I will send yo u his number.

If you just want to do the rail and sights though, that is not that hard and very doable at home. I have done several of these lever rails at my shed. I take John stuff that needs real deal gunsmithing like action and trigger work and chopping, crowning, and threading barrels. Sights and things I can do at home. I can help walk you through it if need be.

Re: For Levergun Addicts - 04/18/18 05:09 PM

thanks, dawg. i found the facebook page. think i'll order the rail without sights, and have it ready to mount if i determine that sights simply will cut shot opportunity too much. i won't make this decision, though, until i get new glasses AND a special order pair in amber with right eye prescription for shooting. my eye doc said she has done this for other patients; all i have to do is bring my rifle so she can measure eye-to-front-sight distance.

once again, thanks for posting your photos. that is a fine-looking custom rifle ...

That is one of the best looking lever actions I’ve seen in a long time. Mr Gallagher did an excellent job for you.
