Opinions on the Taurus PT111 & PT140 G2 - 10/11/17 01:20 PM

Since my incident few weeks back of my Glock getting stolen, I am considering a smaller package for concealment. What do the gun gurus think of the Taurus line in these PTs? I head the 1st gens were not that reliable but the G2 were good shooters. What say you?

I think you can do better for the money. A S&W Shield, a sub compact XD or wait until they do another sale on the XD-S. You can get all of them around the $300 mark if you catch them on sale.

X2. For $$ I don't think you can beat a Shield or XD/XDS. And they run sales on them quite often.

I had a taurus that wouldnt shoot brand new out of the box sent it nack twice for light strikes not setting off primer then after they supposedly fixed it it would jam every 8 or 10 shots. Traded it in + some cash at a gun store for a springfield XD. Thats another reason i dont like to buy used guns at a shop alot of them were gotten rid of because of problems

They was nearly giving away Shields recently. Even so I would trust one more than a Taurus.

I own a PT111 and Sheild in 45.

The Taurus fits my hand like a glove. I do not care for the mile-long trigger.

The shield is kind thin for my hand, however, I shoot it extremely well.

Another option is the Kahr CM9. Smaller than Taurus and Sheild and has a fantastic trigger. That is what I wear.

I would like a pistol that has a Max Capacity in the magazine. Dependability and reliability would be a must also

I got a pt111 g2. Great little gun. For $200 it can't really be beat. Holds more rounds than anything I found that size. It's accurate and dependable. Think it comes with 3 mags. The trigger pull is kinda long on first pull but the trigger resets like a Glock.

I had about decided on xds but didn't like the round count, was shooting at the house and my brother had his xds 9 and my BIL had Taurus after shooting both, I went with Taurus. My brother, bil not I could shoot xds accurately, the Taurus was just a natural shooter. After about 6 months my brother can shoot somewhat accurate. Both guns are same size with Taurus being a tad thicker.

Just think about what you want to have available when your life depends on it and get that one.

Like I said, picture all your possible choices as to what to be armed with on any particular day. Now,imagine you are eating lunch in a restaurant and a guy walks in with a semi auto and starts shooting. Which gun do you want to have with you on that day?

It's not about price. It's not about size or comfort. It's only about that one thing I just outlined. Thinking along this line has changed my carry to a G-19 about 99% of the time.

I've gotten to where I hurt from wearing a real gun. If it fits in my pocket it gets carried now.

I really need to look at a sig p938. Mrs. Geno took my p290rs for her own.

As for 9mm - the evolution of defense ammunition has made the difference between 9 mickey mouse and the major power rounds a lot less.

Geno, are you comfortable carrying a cocked single action in the pocket, relying only on the safety and sear contact? I'm not.

For me the only benefit of a single action is the great single action trigger. If the trigger has to be heavy for safety,I would rather carry something else. Personally I feel much better carrying the Kahr PM9 in a pocket. Just a suggestion.

Re: Opinions on the Taurus PT111 & PT140 G2 - 10/12/17 01:10 PM

I have a PT111 G2 and had a Shield. I personally have had zero problems with either one as far as reliability. I probably have only shot the Taurus 400-500 times. I shot the Shield probably closer to 300. I could not shoot the shield I had near as well as the Taurus, so I got rid of it.

I will add that I normally carry in the woods, checking traps, riding around the farm, Etc. I occasionally CC when me and the family are going to a city or something. When I do its a TCP or bodyguard (something small)

I visit lots of industrial sites at work so CC during the week or even having a gun in my vehicle is a NO-NO.

Yeah - it'll be the only thing in there. I carried various 1911 patterns in condition one on my hip and other places. The sig has a firing pin block that doesn't move until the trigger is staged up.

I'm not against carrying it half cocked if I can easily cock it with one hand. That would mean getting one with a build date past 2015 when they fixed that glitch or sending it to sig to get fixed.
