243 BDL

243 BDL - 07/03/17 08:31 PM

I ran across a deal on a like new, no markings or scratches, 243 bdl I couldn't turn down today. $550 out the door and I took it with me, had a spare scope, a Zeiss 3.5-10x50 and mounted on it. l boresighted it by looking down the barrel and within 3 shots had it zeroed. It shoots the 80gr ttsx pretty much in one ragged hole at 100 and 95 gr ballistic tip about the same, these are both my loads also. I've always liked a 243 for its light recoil and highly effectiveness on deer and hogs and anything below. This will be one of those safe queens and I plan on never getting rid of it, but I may put a timney in it and get rid of the xmark trigger.

Awesome. I picked up a box of the federal 80gr ttsx on sale at academy the other day for 17 bucks. Figured what the heck. See what they do out of my old Model 7. That BDL got a 22" barrel?

Yessir 22" barrel, a new one is 799 plus tax so I figured this is good as I'll get, plus this is a fairly new gun too, still has all the jeweling. If I had to guess I bet it hasn't had a box of shells through it.

22" will get all that the 243 has to offer. Not much classier than a 700 BDL in 243. Except a pre 64 Win in 243 maybe.

I agree on both statements.

My only 243 is a 1969 Sako L579 Deluxe. It prefers bullets in the 80grn range. It shoots very well but I rarely hunt with it.I would have already sold it since I hunt with other rifles but it has nice figure and my 7 year old boy has claimed it for his. When he gets a little older I'll get a McMillan stock to fit him and let him kill his first deer with it.
