300 AAC Blackout

300 AAC Blackout - 04/05/17 08:39 PM

Recently got my .30 caliber surpressor out of jail and I'm interested in getting a 300 AAC Blackout upper to shoot surpressed. I'm not interested dealing with short barrel rifle issues so I'm thinking a 16" barrel. It will be paired with a Rock River lower. What should I be looking for if I want to be able to shoot subsonic and supersonic ammo? Twist rate? Gas system? Good brand? Where to get the best deal? Any help is appreciated.

I have a 16 inch Hardened Arms upper had it almost a year and it's got close to a 1000 rounds thru it have had no trouble with it. I think it was a little over 400 bucks

I have had good luck with hardened arms and radical firearms uppers. For twist rate, 1/8 Is good for supers and subs. For gas system a pistol length gas system is the best to make sure the subs get enough gas to cycle. When you shoot subs, make sure to try them with your suppressor OFF for the first couple shots and check the bullet holes to make sure the bullets are not tumbling. A tumbling bullet will destroy your baffles or at least damage them.

300Blk was optimized for a short barrel
I can understand not wanting to go the SBR route so why don't you build an AR pistol with a brace.

I've heard that it is optimized with a short barrel. I'm not sure I have the skills or the tools to build an AR pistol. I know I can put a complete upper on a complete lower but I'm not confident beyond that. I was also trying to keep my costs down.

What would be the process of building one and the estimated cost? Any recommendations on parts/supplies, etc?

Thanks for the info.

16", pistol gas length and a1/7 twist will stabilize the heaviest subsonics.

You can buy complete pistol uppers for around $350, maybe less, and build a dedicated pistol lower for around $150.

Start buying Ammo or reloading now, you will burn thru it quick!
Lots of fun, low recoil easy shooting.

Took me about 9 months to the day to get my stamp. Just try not to think about it.

I bought a Sota Arms 300 blk upper. If i remember right i paid in the 350-400 range for it.Excellent quality. Having some feeding issues that i have not quite figured out yet wich are probably magazine related.

You're going to love shooting 300blk suppressed. I have a Barrett 16" AR in 300blk but my next gun will be a 300blk pistol. The braces have come a long way and as other have said the round is optimized for the shorter barrel. Also I believe any 300blk round 220 grains and over is subsonic.

PSA sells complete Pistol Lowers and a 8.5" .300blk upper with everything except the BCG and CH. I have one of the uppers. I'm very satisfied for the price.

Thanks. I've been thinking about a PSA. Just wasn't sure about them and whether I would have any issues with it cycling sub sonic rounds. Glad to hear some feedback on PSA.

Everything i have ever got from PSA has been great. The only issue I ever had was a 8.5" 300blk upper I got from them that wouldn't stabilize 208 and 220gr bullets. I got rid of it and got a radical firearms 10.5" barreled upper and haven't had a problem since.

That's interesting. I just finished up shooting some hornady 208 hpbt. I used 10gr of shooter's world .300blk ammo. I didn't test for accuracy, just function. They stabilized, fed, ejected and locked the bolt back.

How long ago did you buy that PSA upper?

Over a year ago. Like I said, I love psa and have never had an issue other than that. That upper shot everything else really good.

Re: 300 AAC Blackout - 04/09/17 07:32 PM

I bought mine last July. It's a stainless barrel. I'll have to pay extra attention to stabilization. The last thing I need is a baffle or end cap strike.
