I will have to say after turkey hunting with a Stoeger for 11 years I disagree slightly. That Stoeger never failed to fire any load and I'm rough as heck on my equipment. If they made a youth 20 it would be a no brainer for me. The young man I sold it to 3 yrs ago is killing birds of all kind with it to this day. You could find me a sweet Italian 20 cheap and return the favor on that half priced Extrema I turned you on to a couple of years ago.
When I caution against the Turkish autos, I am generally speaking about the gas ones made off of the Beretta 390 gas design. I.E. the CZ, Weatherby, Tristar, and Mossberg (there might be others...not sure). The design is fantastic, but they simply have lesser quality materials vs. an Italian gun. Hence, I wouldn't be a bit scared to have one as long as the particular company importing it was standing behind it and had parts ready to fix it if something happened (given the lesser strength materials used). I know that Weatherby does so with their SA series. I also really like how they give you a pair of different gas pistons...one for light loads and one for heavy loads. Another really neat feature.
I totally agree with you on the Stoegers made in Turkey. It's a different animal as it is an inertia driven, Benelli design. Definitely cheaper materials than Franchis and Benellis but a fine shotgun nonetheless. They seem to stand behind them after import into the U.S. too. For the record, they do make a 20 gauge in the Stoeger. I think the number is M3020. I'm not sure if they make it in a youth gun though. Would be sweet if they did!
I would be honored to help you find a great deal on a Beretta 20 in a youth config. I love spending other people's money. One of my favorite past times.
