Boiling Peanuts - 08/16/20 01:19 AM

In a instapot is the way to go! 1lb of peanuts with 1/2 cup of salt. Throw in your water. A little less salt if you prefer. They’ll be ready in an 1-1 hr 10 mins.

Yep, I got an instapot two years ago and the first thing I did was boil peanuts.
In one hour you can have the best peanuts you ever tried.

Re: Boiling Peanuts - 08/16/20 02:32 PM

I use the steam setting, and put 60 minutes on the timer.
Close the whistle valve and release the pressure after 60 minutes.
It'll take several minutes to vent, so don't place it under your cabinets or anywhere you don't wish to be salt steamed.

It's not rushing. It's called expedited. And you can drink beer while enjoying those delicious morsels.

Re: Boiling Peanuts - 08/16/20 07:26 PM

😉👍 I use the high pressure setting too. When you turn the steam valve to "closed" it will still vent excessive pressure so no need to worry about any kind of explosion.
Just turn it to vent before opening, and allow it to completely depressurize.

Peanuts
Salt to liking (1/2 cup / pound ish)
Cover with water
Weight peanuts into water with trivet
High Pressure for one hour.
Release steam
Eat.

Is this correct?

Ralph at our camp makes the best I’ve ever had and I love them things. He makes a chicken broth from rooster bones and only uses green peanuts. He warshes them in cold ice water and adds his broth and water and sea salt. I know his recipe but not the preportions. I e tried and tried but can’t make them like he does. Makes the camp house smell right

I tried my instapot for boiled peanuts and let them go75 min, and natural release. They were still pretty crunchy, so I went another 20 minutes and really not much better. Ended up tossing them. Some of you pro's tell me what I did wrong!
Posted By: cchoque93

Re: Boiling Peanuts - 08/20/20 01:50 PM

I put the pro boil to them instead of salt and I add 1/3 of a bottle of red pepper flakes when in instant pot. If boiling big batch outside I’ll dump an entire bottle. The so called “Cajun” ones from stores and others are a joke in my opinion

I've found about 4 1/2 to 5 hrs in the instapot gets them right.

24 hrs in the crock pot on low and they are pretty much perfect.

Raw are mature peanuts just uncooked. Green are juvenile peanuts and have more moisture and cook better. If using raw soak in water for 24 hrs before cooking. My pot is dinging on the second batch I did green, 1:25, crab boil, creole, red pepper flakes, Franks hot sauce and some diced jalapeño. I’ll report on the outcome if they don’t kill me.

Re: Boiling Peanuts - 09/29/20 02:38 PM

Just boiled my first batch in the Instapot this weekend. 2# peanuts, 1/2 cup sea salt, about 1/4 cup Tony Chachere's (we didn't have any jalapenos), covered with water. High setting for 60 minutes on the instapot then let the pressure bleed off on its own (I remembered them a couple of hours later). Popped the lid off and they were some of the best I've ever done. Needed more spice (will pick up some jalapenos for the rest of the bag that didn't get boiled)

Nice.
My wife has really started using ours a lot since the Covid started.
She makes a sausage pasta that is really just ground sausage, prego sauce and penne pasta. It is good.
I also learned to make cheesecake in it, and it is as good as you will try anywhere.
