Got the fish and seasoning at DJ’s, a small butcher shop in Alabaster. Other than that I know Whole Foods would have it and Sextons fish market in cahaba heights. Just make sure it’s sashimi grade, it’s how it is handled from when caught until frozen so it don’t make you sick to eat it raw or nearly raw.
I'm not 10 min from DJ's. What's that slab of tuna running for a piece that size?
Best I remember it was around $10. I don’t know if they still sell the char crust but if not you can get it on amazon. I did a minute on each of the big sides and I did 20 seconds on the small sides in a little evoo
It's pretty cheap. I get Ahi tuna from time to time at Mark's Mart in Selma to do homemade tekka maki sushi rolls. Gonna have to try this, looks fantastic!
Looks awesome! When I was working in Truck Lagoon in 1993 I'd go diving every chance that I got. Our dive guides would trade bunches of bananas for fresh tuna off Taiwanese longliners not far off the islands. We'd just pull up alongside and they'd work out a trade despite the language barrier. The tuna was put on ice and brought back to the island to be made into sashimi. A huge platter was about $5. Talk about GOOD!!
