Garbage bag burrito!

Boys I apparently lived a pretty sheltered life. I was raised by God fearing, hard working, law abiding parents. I guess I thought everybody was raised sorta like I was. Well, they weren't. I've been made really aware of that since we started using work release guys at the shop a couple years ago. Some of the stories about their upbringings will make your skin crawl and your blood boil...

So anyway, what does that have to do with food?

These guys get pretty resourceful. They actually cook at work release with no pots and pans. Only a microwave and some paper plates, etc...

So one day last week I heard one of the work release guys talking about a "Garbage bag burrito." Well my curiosity got the best of me, so I asked him what he was talking about. He said they didn't have any bowls in prison (yeah this guy has served some hard time) so they had to make do with what they had. After he told me what it was, and he and another guy bragged on how good it was, he up and offered to fix it for me. I mean what's a guy supposed to do? This guy has nothing, but he wanted to fix me some food, so I told him if he'd fix it, I'd try it... I didn't want to be disrespectful.

So, here's the recipe:

2 packs of uncooked Ramen noodles, crushed up in the bag
2 small bags of Cheetos crushed
2 small bags of Jalapeno Potato Chips crushed
2 packs of Sour Cream and chive crackers crushed
1 can of Chili with beans

You mix the Ramen noodle pieces, the crushed Cheetos, Chips, and the can of chili in a garbage bag, then you use the Sour Cream and chive cracker crumbs to thicken it up.

I ate one small bite and it was actually good. I ate one more big bite and let them have the rest. I'm not joking, it really was good.

Now I wouldn't make this at home and if I made it I wouldn't use a garbage bag but this would actually be a good hunting camp recipe.

I was told in college that that is a prison burrito. Thinking about it now, garbage bag burrito actually sounds much better.

The description I was told involved the ingredients being pressed rather than 'mixed' in the bag, this allowed the burrito to form and made it hand held.

Probably almost as good as that $5 Taco Bell box I just ate.

I think I may make this for our next pot luck church lunch.

If you didn't know what was in it, every one of you would eat it and I bet 85% of you would like it.

Heck I’d eat it even knowing what’s in it. I’m not going to the trouble to make it, but if someone else did and said “hey try this” I’d give it a shot.

Is that pic before entry or after exit. I believe it tastes okay, but dang that looks bad!!

Seems like prison is like that. What’s awesome in prison most people wouldn’t do in the real world. I heard a radio show where the host was saying he didn’t care if inmates had recreational drugs. Yeah your high on meth but your not getting that high you want staring at 8x8 finder block wall. That “burrito” is good when your in prison, but when you can get like 10 Taco Bell tacos in less time and for cheaper than you can make that dish why punish your self? I guess they eat it room temp also? Can’t microwave a trash bag.

Thanks for posting Fur. I've never been in prison but I did live as a bachelor for my first 27 years. After I moved away from my parents house @ 18 years old I often found myself very hungry at night with only a few items to make a meal out of. It's amazing what you can throw together to make a one pot meal if you have the condition called "The Munchies"

When I was a broke college student all I had in the trailer to eat once was a can of tuna, a box of Kraft mac n cheese, a can of English peas and some mayonaise. I can attest to you after trying a prison burrito and that afore mentioned stuff mixed together, the burrito is better.

Prolly looks the same either way. Guarranteed to generate another infamous Aldeer thread about the squirts.

I have never had prison burritos but I have had prison wine which ain't that bad and is easy to make....
