At the first of the season, way too much but by the end of the season 0. If it won't fit in a pocket or around my neck, I don't need it

I stay very hot, I can not make myself put a vest back on after hunting without one for several years.

I tried a time or two last year, with a very small light, primos with shoulder straps. I still had that joker off within a hour or two.

I tote way too much. But really, what is needed other than a call or two and a gun?? That may be enough for some. Actually if your carrying woodsman-ship and patience, you could kill more turkeys without a call. Callin is just the fun part. I don't care if u stuff ol' Eddie Salter himself in your vest, without those two your season is gonna be slow as far as killin.

I have a gun with 3 shells in it,a couple more in my pocket,a few mouth calls,my slate or glass call and a crow call and owl hooter,no need to wear a vest to put that little bit in,a vest would actually be a burden on me because I will put the crawl on one if needed

I carry 2 boxes, a slate, a crystal, 3 strikers, about 10 mouth calls, wood pecker call, crow call, and a hoot owl call even though I use my hands to hoot owl call most of the time. I carry a $4 wal mart blow up jake decoy that has been the death of many a gobbler. 2 sets of gloves, 2 masks and TP. 3 hevi mags and 2 regular federals for back up bullets. 3 hevi mags all shot in rapid succession can be expensive.

I've shot 3 nitros at someone else's turkey before and knocked it out of the air, got the bird but I didn't even tag it. That was in 2007. A redwing blackbird dove down at my shooters bird right at the time he pulled the trigger. Bird pitched straight up and to my left. I pulled up while he watched it fly and put three shells in it. Sucker fell in a swamp and he didn't even see it fall. We waded out there and he was DOA. I punched my tag 2 days later on that out of state hunt. Fun times!

Never used one before. I spray down each morning and don't wash my clothes until I have to. The stink like a SOB, but I don't get chiggers, ticks, or skeeters on me. I leave them in the garage when not wearing them smile

Been there done that and at $5 a shell don't do it any more. My lead shell is a Mag Blend followed by 2 federal #5s. I tend to miss a lot as told in the miss thread earlier.

I have left the truck before at daylight and not come back until dark. When I go to the truck I am going home or to another farm. I just like being prepared for anything I come across. I don't get lost either, I make and read maps for a living.

Learn something new everyday. I remember when I was a kid my dad would blow thru his hands like that and whistle but I've never heard somebody making an owl call with it. I've actually been sitting here trying to do it and I can't even make a whistle.

Re: how much does your vest weigh......without a turkey :) - 02/18/13 04:45 AM

I wear a mask around the neck, gloves on the hands, shells in the gun.

For excess I have a bunch of mouth calls I made, a few extra shells in the pockets, and two slates in one of those promos slate call holders as well as two strikers. I also carry one of the hunt comfort fatboy seats. Its the only thing I carry thats not really needed IMO. But they are good seats.

I leave everything else in the truck, I use a decoy sometimes for midday or late evening hunts. I HATE wearing a vest. There is not one situation I have wished I had something I did not. Other than some water.

Re: how much does your vest weigh......without a turkey :) - 02/18/13 05:02 AM

I don't carry a bunch of calls, but I have to have water, TP, some pruning snips and a little saw on me so I wear a vest to keep that stuff in. I'm bad to lose stuff too if I don't have it all together so it helps to have a vest to keep my turkey stuff in year-round. I'll get it out and check it in a few days and make sure all my stuff is in place a be I'll be ready to go. If I didn't keep stuff in a vest I'd have to tear the house apart looking for all if it. . I wish I could figure out how to do without one but I can't.

I have left the house before fully clothed and came back looking like I got into a fight with a mountain lion in just my underwear! Wife wasn't sure what to think the first time she saw this, gave me the run down of questions as to why my boxers now look like a thong!

Lol, I really had no idea it was there.

For those of you unaware. We was at the turkey convention and I had a sock stuck down in my boot. Just a extra one, I suppose it was from when it was washed or dried it got stuck in my pants. Been there half a day and didn't know it.

I told them it was my spare in case I needed something to wipe with.

My friggin' gun doesn't help either. It's pushing 12 pounds at least.
