LFTTW - 3/26 - 03/26/23 06:53 AM
At the gate again. 2:32am arrival this morning, and we’re the first truck here! Should give me plenty of time to work the crawfish from last night out of my system. 10° warmer this morning and supposed to be a high of 93° today! Hopefully we can get it done early. Came really close yesterday and know where a few are living. If we can keep people from mowing their lawns and riding bikes down WMA roads we should be in the chips. Good luck everyone.

Just got my camo on and started a pot of coffee. Not sure if they’ll do anything here this morning or not, supposed to have off and on thunderstorms all day.

Same but couldn't sleep. Drove to my southern most lease to get away from the rain. Used to be my best spot but birds are scarce now but there are a few still around. Stepped out of the truck and almost onto a copperhead. A 2" piece of EMT will take a snakes head clean off. Good luck out there.

Had 3 different birds gobble a few times right at daylight. One was within 150yds of me. All 3 were not far across the property line. All quiet since 0630hrs. Hoping to get one to come to this power line. Heard a shot off in the distance about 20mins ago.

Re: LFTTW - 3/26 - 03/26/23 04:11 PM
Got on a bird at fly down but he hung up, making a move on him struck another bird so started after him only to get busted. Sitting there cussing myself for getting busted and here comes a consolation prize, coyote walked right up to a load of TSS. Sitting there talking to a buddy about killing the coyote and hear the 1st bird gobbling so grabbed my stuff and went to him but get there and it’s 4 long beards showing out. Set up and they come in but skirt around me in some thick stuff and cross property line and a guy over there killed one. Went over and talked to him, congratulated him on a fine bird and he showed me where he was sitting and it was one helluva shot. We talked turkeys for about 20 minutes and parted ways. I worked my way back to the truck and jumped some deer. Had a great morning, watched the sun come up, heard and seen some long beards and subtracted 1 from the coyote population. Man I love spring time.

We had one working our way, probably got 75-100yds out, and the whole thing got busted up by a passing coyote. Didn't get to shoot him either, dangit!

Finally got it done. It took over 2 hours of moving forward and backing up with one sideways movement thrown in but I finally got him across the swamp. I've tried several times to get birds to cross that swamp but he's the only one that's ever done it for me.

Killed my first turkey this morning! 10” beard and 1” spurs. This has been 3 seasons in the making since I’ve started turkey hunting and I did the whole hunt by myself and have never felt more accomplished with something in my life!
Congrats dB and deer slayer

Re: LFTTW - 3/26 - 03/27/23 01:40 AM
Had a perfect morning hunt after getting my tail whipped yesterday by this bird. I pinned him down yesterday afternoon and he was right where I left him. Storms quit about 6:15 and we walked on in. He was hammering at the thunder. He did what you’d expect a 2 year old to do and was dead by 7:15. I’ve had a tough few years with the turkeys, so it felt great to get one under the belt.
