Sitting on a ridge top about 1hrs walk and 700’ up from the truck. 2 guys in a Prius beat me to the first spot, so I’m back in a place I’ve never been, but been eyeballing for a while.

I think the guys in the Prius are The Hunting Public!
It’s sleeting on the mountain. Didn’t see that in the forecast.

Had four gobbling this morning. I was just watching to see what they were doing. Tomorrow is my wife and I anniversary so we are gonna try these birds and try to get her her first bird. They didn’t have hen with them this morning so I’m hoping we can have a chance with them

Re: LFTW 4/9 - 04/09/22 12:39 PM

No gobbles but the lone survivor on the north end of the farm is strutting on top of the hill under the powerline. He gets a pass because we have already killed three off of that end of the farm and he gets to breed.

Oh, and it’s windy as hell!

Re: LFTW 4/9 - 04/09/22 01:28 PM

Didnt have any roosting close and only a few scattered gobbles. One bird seemed pretty hot so we high stepped it back to the truck and drove around to him. Set up and called. He answered my calls but didnt budge. That lasted an hour. Now he has been quiet for 20 minutes. So, that may be good.

However, both my shooters are lightly snoring on each of my shoulders.

We did have a jake sneak in behind us, but both kids said they were after something bigger. We'll see if that changes as the weekend progresses.

They didn’t gobble much in tree but they got fired up on the ground. Lil spec and his 20 gauge are bad medicine on turkeys. Probably a 35-40 yard shot

Re: LFTW 4/9 - 04/10/22 08:55 PM

I killed at 9:45. Only gobbled a hand full of times on the limb. I figured the cool spell was messing with them so I I set up a spot and dang near fell asleep waiting for the sun to heat the earth up. About 8:30 this bird caught fire and started gobbling. I moved on him one time and he came looking. It was a beautiful morning once the sun got up.
