Got a jackleg driving a UTV down by the creek bottom the birds are usually roosted in. Nice start to a beautiful morning.

Only one bird gobbling and he’s a couple hundred yards across the line. He’s got enough that I think I could kill him if I had time to sit on him for an hour or so. Dang work

Re: Lftw 4/13 - 04/13/21 01:39 PM

Got a gobbler on camera right before fly up time last night,.knew exactly where he was going to roost. Got set up about 80 yards from him this morning, closest I've ever gotten to a turkey before they flew down. He gobbled good on the limb about four or five times at least and acknowledge my light yelps. Man I'm fired up at this point thinking he's going to fly right down to my barrel, but nope the stupid idiot flies down the opposite way of me and jets it down a logging Road. My pride is hurt.

I knew where he was headed and I tried to swing around him and heard him gobbling his full head off and then he must have found his hen and shut up. maybe another day

Re: Lftw 4/13 - 04/13/21 02:34 PM

This fellow played the game oldschool.
Been with him since 7.

He went to 2 strut zones and gobbled his voice out.
But he wasn't coming to me.

Had to give hin the silent treatment for a looong time.
He played a great game and came close to winning several times.

Oh boy could I ?!

I stopped them and had some words. I don’t expect it’ll happen again. I was hotter than iron skillet after driving 49 minutes and walking in to where I was, AND was working a bird too. Guess the idiots heard him gobble from their lease and thought they’d just drive on up to him and say hello. They busted two more flocks of birds as they were driving to me. Drove slap under two long Time roost spots. I was just dumbfounded.

Haha! I had someone walk in on me on the wma a few years ago. Dude was blowing an owl hooter flute the entire way up the mountain. I was sitting 125 yards above a roosted longbeard. Dude walks right up to me. I chewed him up one side and down the other. He finally left and I thought “there is no way this turkey is still here after that ass chewing.” About that time he gobbled again. I wound up calling what was actually two long beards up to 40 yards. AND I MISSED! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Same story different day. Got on some gobblers but they just wouldn't play the game the way we needed. Glad to finally be hearing some birds though. Congratulations guys!

Being retired sounds great when you are younger. The problem when it gets here is that you feel so lousy that it's hard to enjoy it. Oh well, have to know that something better awaits.
