Chufa question - 05/30/20 12:30 PM

Question for more knowledgeable folks. First time planting chufa, planted on May 17th, about 2ish acres. Medium soil, well drained. Sprayed it and put a harrow to it before planting. Broadcast the chufa and ran back over it lightly with the harrow. Went out yesterday and had some disappointment as a walk through the field only revealed a few sprockets that i could tell. Have i not given it enough time? Also, got some light weeds coming through, i got liquid Treflan from the coop, can this be sprayed as a post emergent on chufa?

In limestone county.

Thanks!

Treflan needs to be incorporated into the soil at the time of planting. I would think you have waited too late to use it. You can still control weeds with an over the top spraying. Clethodim or Poast will control grass; you can use Milestone or 2,4-DB to handle broadleaf. I would wait and see if I had a decent stand before deciding what to do.

It should be coming up ok by now, but the soil in my area has only recently got warm enough for chufa to come up. I'd wait another week and see if comes up better. Good luck!
