Re: LFTW 5/03 Last Day - 05/03/20 12:04 PM

Had one gobble 3 times between 5:30-6. Got within a couple hundred yards and he hasn’t gobbled in an hour. I’ve got a 9 hour trip back home today so I’m gonna speed hunt my way around the property and see if I can strike one that’s in the right mood.

Re: LFTW 5/03 Last Day - 05/03/20 12:42 PM

He gobbled at 535 sounded off pretty regularly for about an hour. Got within 100 yards but Had some competition as I heard no less than 4 diff hens around him. Had 2 fly down and land in sight of me but walked away. I saw him pitch out at 645. I’m sure he got up with one or more of his girls. I’ve made a big loop back trying to get in front of him on a logging road they’ve been using. He has not gobbled since he left the limb.

Good luck. I had planned to try this weekend but decided to get some sleep to see if my arrhythmia issues will go away. No luck. I should have hunted. Probably brought on by all this turkey stress anyway. Now I really want to shoot another one.

Well this bird has made a fool of me the last 2 mornings but it’s been my best season ever. Got to watch my son kill his 1st and 2nd turkey and I got one to boot. Congrats to the killers and we be blessed to see another season.

Re: LFTW 5/03 Last Day - 05/03/20 01:52 PM

Had one gobble three times on the limb before 6. I'm 250 yards over on the other ridge and make a move to swing around him, get on the same ridge, and set up. Sounded like he hit the ground early right after 6 headed away from me and went silent. Saw another longbeard crossing the paved road on my way out and pulled off and tried to strike him up. No dice.

Good luck everyone, at least I got to hear some gobbling one last time.

This bird I was messing with needs to be pimp slapped...3 times. One backhand. Pause. One forehand. Pause. Then one more HARD backhand to make sure he gets the message. 😡

Heard one gobble across property line about 400 yds. Never heard him since he flew down

Heard one on 2 of my 3 hunts so it was a good year! Congrats to the killers this yr and good luck to those heading out of state to kill more.

Slept in, sure was nice. Locked in on what would be no 5 early this week but he has been pretty coy. Got close on one end of his strut zone but too late. Going in late afternoon and sit quietly with a few soft clucks and enjoy the memories of a great season!

Back out here one last afternoon. Set up on edge of clearcut with 2 hen decoys. There was a hot bird in here yesterday morning. Maybe he’s still close by. This part of land hasn’t been hunted too much this season so hopefully he’s gonna wonder who this new sounding hen is and come investigate.

I finally heard a bird again- 4 actually. Was working one when two nimrods walked in and spooked him. Joys of public land. Got on another but he was a walk-a-way bird and got onto private property. But it was a beautiful morning, got the heart racing a little, and remembered why I can't stay home. Congrats to this year's killers. May we all see the sun rise on opening day 2021.

Re: LFTW 5/03 Last Day - 05/03/20 09:55 PM

We went to spray the fields at the lease at lunch. Saw two hens the first just slowly walked away making me think she had a nest or poults close but nothing we could find. The second had at least 5-6 days old poults with her which was great to see. Didn’t even bother to hunt this weekend and ended up with 0 kills. I should have killed one opening morning after Stephen killed but couldn’t get a shot. Did see Stephen kill his second of the year but other than one more sighting our year was crap.
