LFTW 5/2 - 05/02/20 09:46 AM

Getting down to the wire boys. About to go mess with some highly pressured public land birds. Stayed at the lake last night, my heads hurting and I might’ve slept two hours tops but dammit I’m here. Passed 6 trucks on the way in at 4:15

Present in S.C. First real hunt of the year. Judging by the amount of trucks on the way in, these birds have been pressured hard but we will see what happens. The song birds are talking up a storm this morning.

Re: LFTW 5/2 - 05/02/20 12:15 PM

First morning of gobbling in a month. Had one come in on a string and pop his head up over the ridge at 25 yards but it looked like a hen’s head and I couldn’t see a beard. He couldn’t see the hen so he turned to walk off and I saw his beard. Son of a...

Re: LFTW 5/2 - 05/02/20 07:31 PM

Gobbled on the roost flew down and gobbled a few more times the hooked up with a bunch of hens and away they went. I do t recall a spring where so many gobblers were still henned up so bad this late. Hope all this results in some strong hatches. out in this heat now trying to find one that’s lonely.

No luck early, went to a different place (public), had a jake come in silent. Had the safety clicked off on him at 15 yards with my trigger finger tingling, but decided to give him a pass...kinda regret it now bc it looks like I'll go birdless on the season unless I get lucky tomorrow morning.

Maybe letting him go will buy me some good ju-ju

Re: LFTW 5/2 - 05/02/20 09:23 PM

Our birds are about done. Gobbling tapering off. Watched 5 long beards get together yesterday. Took my boy this morning and heard 2. Seemed more interested at gobbling at each other. It’s been fun. Only 10 1/2 months till Turkey2021!!
