I pulled up Aldeer this morning fully expecting NOT to see an LFTT because of this nasty weather. And of course I was wrong. An Alabama turkey hunter is as real and hardcore as it gets.Good luck, Let’s go kill em’ boys!!!!

Light rain and a little breezy in Chambers co. this morning. Dropped off on to the green field where I killed one last weekend. Doing it the dry way this morning though. Sitting in a box blind waiting in the rain to stop. Good luck guys.

PCP, y'all lost me in the Dave Owens thread talking about that "putt".

Are y'all talking about the "water drop" putt? That's about all I can think of.

.I don't have any idea what a water drop putt would be. I don't know people language; just turkey language. smile

I'm pretty sure there talking about a gobbler cluck. There where are you cluck. Fairly loud cluck that resembles a putt . But I'm easily confused.

Lol! I understand.

The "water drop" is more of a feeding cluck mostly heard with purrs and whines.

I've heard gobblers cluck and putt but mostly when they already folded their wings and are getting ready to leave.

Re: LFTW 4/20 - 04/20/19 04:46 PM

I just happened to see mine out in a food plot preening and eating clover at about 9am. He was with three jakes and a hen. Tried to get close and call to him but they were just hanging out in one spot trying to dry off. So I doubled back around and got some briars between me and them and managed to crawl within 20yds of him. Ended up being the bird that I “missed” two weekends ago. He’s got half dissolved clumps of feather and shot in his breast from that morning.

In all of my turkey experiences, a putt is bad.
Putt means you are busted.

I watched one putt when walking up to a hen before he bred her this spring. It was a new one for me

Re: LFTW 4/20 - 04/20/19 06:53 PM

I’m done with them. It’s been a tough year around these parts. Ended up killing 3 but none of them got on fire maybe 4 or 5 gobbles. Hunted both private and public and has been the same. Weather has been crap and last gobble I heard was about 2 weeks ago. Some may have but I’ve never seen them act this way. Like I’ve said before I did see a bunch of jakes so maybe next year will be better. Headed to north Texas in 2 weeks so maybe I can get my fix for the year. Congrats to the killers.

That's the sound I've been talking about. It's different from the alarm putt and it's more intense and sharper than a cluck.

Congrats to all who got one today; it was a tough morning

Re: LFTW 4/20 - 04/20/19 08:55 PM

In the words of Lovett Williams, “the only difference in an alarm putt and a cluck is if the turkey is calm, or if it’s running or flying away.” It went something like that anyway. There’s different clucks (putts) just like there are different yelps, purrs, whines, etc. Some are calm and quiet, some are loud and raspy. Some are done standing in one spot, feeding, or getting the hell outta dodge. The only difference is the mood and/or action of the turkey.
