Turkey vests - 02/24/19 05:04 AM

Are there turkey vests that's are decent, don't weigh 10 lbs empty and aren't $120? It seems everything is getting so heavy and expensive. Or is garbage. I thought the point was to be light and mobile. They used to be. What do you like?

I've always worn the super elite series vests. This year I bought the redesigned nomad vest and it seems to be well made and light. We will see how it holds up over the course of the season.

I’ve been eyeing the knight and hale vest lately. Run and gun 200 is the model. But it’s still got way more pockets than what I need. H.s. Strut has a chest pouch that straps on like a binocular harness, seems like it would be a good idea with a seat cushion around your waist.

Just saw a video on the knight and hale 200...absolutely love the looks of it...my problem was I never had a vest fit me because I am tall and skinny but love the 10pt adjusting system they have that can actually fit just about anyone...

I bought one from walmarks last week. I like how adjustable it is. My favorite thing so far is the seat. I like how you can just flip it up and go instead of trying to fool with the buckles like my elite vest has. The material doesn't seem to be very tough but we'll see.

Ended up biting the bullet and getting one in bottomland...the Run and Gun 200...Got a 1.5L olive green hydration pack and a clip to clip the tube to keep it in position as well...this thing is every bit quality and finally found one to fit a skinny lanky guy like myself! Love the seat system but I have to say I really like how the material is quiet and would have to disagree because even the zippers feel like they were made to last...hopefully that will be the case at least lol

I've spoiled myself and gone away from the vest. I have a small chair like a gobbler lounger I sit in and a small pack with a crow call a slate and a couple mouth calls. It's about all I need and way more comfortable waiting one out.

I don’t mind carrying some weight, as long as it rides well. I’ll trade a little extra weight for comfort, with barking discs and joints. Give me a kickstand best or better yet, a lounger, and a few calls. I carry far more stuff for staying in the woods than calling.....water, thermocell, snacks, binos, clippers, etc. ....but other than occasional decoys or a rain suit, nothing bulky. So, sometimes a shoulder bag and a chair is it. Other times, it’s a full vest or backpack.

For me I like my vest. When I put my vest on its game time ! Its kinda like that feeling you'd get when you buckle up your football helmet. Lol

Yep, same way. I feel naked without it.

Went years without one and this will be the first one rolling with one...you def are right lol but I'll add that it keeps everything in one place compared to my pack here, my seat here, had my shells and gloves/mask in my pocket etc when with the vest, I'll have it hanging in the truck and it's a one stop shop.

Yep I like all my junk in one place. I can't stand having a bunch of stuff in my pockets plus calls have a tendency to break in your pocket.i know exactly where every thing is in my vest. I bought one of the Rg 200 vest mainly because of the seat but I'm not gonna stick with my elite vest.

I ended up getting one of the rg 200 vests as well. We will see how it works, I think I’m gonna like it.

Got a 1.5L Olive drab color hydration bladder and a dark tan tube clip off of amazon to modify it/take away the noise of a water bottle...fits and works perfectly so far...we shall see how it hunts

The Hydration bladder as recommended to me by another guy with the same vest: (the olive drab 1.5L)

I don't understand the hate for vests that some have. When I started hunting, there was no such thing as a turkey vest and no good way to carry calls. I have 2 Lynch boxes made in the 60s that would be worth a lot today, but I ruined both of them by carrying them in a coat pocket.

The first turkey vest I ever saw had only 4 pockets, but it was much better than anything I'd had before so I bought it and used it for years. I bought several upgrades, and have been using the super elite type for many years. I remove the seat and the part that remains weighs just a few ounces, but it has all the pockets I need to safely carry everything I use. You don't have to load it down with junk; just carry what you really need.

I agree preacher. I wouldn’t hunt without mine but I hunt light.

Re: Turkey vests - 03/11/19 01:57 PM

I gave up the vests last year and went to Tom Teaser's turkey tote. A lot lighter and frankly, if I can't get everything in that thing, I'm carrying too much.
