Oklahoma public land

Oklahoma public land - 02/12/19 03:53 AM

I’ll be in the Midwest at the end of April-first of May and have a couple of states lined up to hunt. If all goes well I’ll have 3-4 days left to hunt after the hunts I have planned are over. Has anyone hunted Oklahoma public land that could offer any advice? I’ve read a good bit on the black kettle and it seems like a prospect, but is a little further west than I want to go,coming from central Kansas, if possible.

Black kettle is where I'll be starting the 2nd week of their season. Thing about it it all cut up land wise. Last time we was there in 17 we saw bunches of birds. We're going to be camping at skip out lake

Nobody goes to the Black Kettle anymore, it's too crowded.

I'd look at one of the smaller ones in that area.

I’ve hunted BK twice and saw and killed my birds. I do know someone that went last year that had a horrible trip. He was told big hail storms damaged nests 2 years prior.

if ya hunt Black Kettle stay at the motel next to the restaurant in Cheyenne, both are cheap and the food is good.

That was a Yogi Berra quote, but I thought it applied pretty well. Every turkey forum you read says the BK is crowded. I stayed at the motel in Cheyenne once and was gonna hunt the BK the next morning. It rained 7" and washed out a main bridge. I was afraid to get my 2wd truck off the pavement, so I didn't go. But there were several groups of hunters there, and they all got out in it anyway.
