Well so far another morning of no gobbling. Trying hard to keep my composure this spring.

Not a peep in Bibb co. The turkeys are here just quiet. Another morning in a head scratching season.

Every critter in the woods is letting their presence known except the very rare and elusive turkey.

Re: LFTW 4-19-18 - 04/19/18 03:09 PM

I didn’t hear anything at daylight so I walked over to an area out an old road bed and the wind was howling up the hollow and I couldn’t hear well plus I didn’t like it for a blind calling set up. I decided to move to another area on the opposite side of where I had parked. I had planted several varieties of clover in there during the fall and felt it was my best bet. I set up my decoys in the edge of the field but where my jake could be seen from a old road that came into the field. I gave a few very soft clucks a soft 6-8 note yelp and shut up. About 20 minutes later I gave a few more clucks and slightly louder longer series of yelps. Shortly thereafter I see that white head coming up the old road bed and he made a beeline for my jake spitting and drumming the whole way. I had to wait on him to turn so I wouldn’t blow his fan off and when he did BOOM but to my dismay I missed and he proceeded to whip my my jake again and then BOOM- no miss this time thank goodness. In my defense he was only about 10 yards away lol. This was special to me because it has been the worst season I’ve ever had then this happens and I get my first bird with a 20 gauge and a new call from Redbeard on its first trip to the woods. I have a couple of pictures I can text someone if you can post them for me. Thanks guys!
