I know it was cold last night, river came up and like to have trapped me. I waded water over my boots to get out at dark and dang that water was cold.
Several years ago, I was hunting the swamps of the Tombigbee in Marengo County. At the time I only had one stand and it was hung on high ground in a swampy area - and a front like came through this weekend was coming. I decided to hunt that morning until the rain started... and I crossed a slough to that high ground when the water was about at the bottom of my calf to get there. I was seeing a lot of deer, so I stayed well into the rain... and finally left with my stand about an hour after it started. The slough that had been about a foot high when I went in was about chest high when I was coming out. Luckily, I had chest waders on that day... but had I stayed any longer I'd have had to swim out in 40 degree weather.
