Turkeys EVERYWHERE - 10/08/17 04:24 PM

In Great Smoky Mountain National Park this week. We literally have not seen a single deer anywhere, but 4 bears and more turkeys than we've been able to count, including 4 or 5 that were smoke grey, almost white.

I got a pic of one that we saw in Cades Cove on Friday that was smoke grey. I'll try to get it uploaded here soon.

They ate all the wheat out of my dove field before the doves could. I didn't see a single dove this weekend, but did see about a dozen turkeys

Sign me a permission slip and I’ll make them stop tearing up the fields. I wouldnt put up with it and would really like to help you out, I know they can be a pain and I don’t want them taking advantage of you. smile

I know of a place.. We planted green fields and had to leave the tractor and a couple 4 wheelers parked there cause theyd eat the seed before ground even have time to bust in tha ground. Literally had to ride atound and run the turkeys out of the fields lest they ate up all the seed. Heard more turkeys gobble in a mornin around that place than anywhere ever in my life. It was a little spooky to hear that many gobblin at once

I don't believe gobbling turkeys could be spooky. The most I have ever heard from one set up is 13. I had a smile from ear to ear that morning. I will never forget it. Me and a buddy doubled up.

I had a hen start cackling once when I was hunting on flood plain next to large reservoir. It was one of those dead silent mornings where the mist is the loudest thing around and she was about 80 yards away across a creek in a cypress grove. I had no idea there were turkeys there, but from the first note out of her mouth til the last, it sounded like there were twenty gobblers in a wad right on top of her. It made my heart jump into my throat like a bolt of lightening crashing down in front of me. Spooky as all hell. To this day it is still one of my most vivid turkey hunting memories.

I never did find how many birds were in that wad. Right after they thundered away a rogue gobbler on my side of the creek decided to join the fray. Too bad for him -- I was in between them wink
