Deer hunting on your turkey ground ...

do you do it?

I went to clear some saplings around a tree overlooking a convergence of trails I'm planning on hunting this bow season. Initially I must have sounded something like a turkey scratching around because I heard a hen start talking to me. So this area is where I spent the bulk of my turkey season and I know they're in there. This afternoon as I'm thinking about it I guess I'm questioning the wisdom of spending extra time in there outside of turkey season. I have what I think is a really good approach route to the tree I intend to climb away from any turkey traffic or sign that I've ever seen. I've never deer hunted this location and don't have to but would like to. I'm thinking it probably is no big deal but I also don't want the turkeys getting used to seeing me in there.

What say you?

You can't be seriously asking that.

Why not? It seems you think this is a stupid question. It may be to you but it's not to me or I wouldn't ask. The older I get the more I realize the expediency of asking someone when I don't know.

I value the ground more for turkey hunting than I do for deer hunting. I don't think it should be a big deal but have enough doubt to make me ask for opinions from people who have more knowledge and experience than I do. That does not seem like a dumb thing to do to me. You're free to disagree.

You are giving turkeys too much credit for their intellect. Deer hunt it and don't worry about it. If it's good habitat, they'll be back. Turkeys are chased by every carnivore that lives in the woods so they're accustomed to being flushed out of spots very frequently. Being pushed by you on a few deer hunts each year won't make a difference.

Yelp Softly summed it up pretty good.

They can't remember what they had for breakfast.

How about this. Turkey have been killed in a fresh clearcut where foresters, timber buyers, and logging employees have stomped around and talked loudly for weeks, maybe months. Before the logging is even finished. Happens all the time, every season. You think they care about a random encounter from a deer hunter in the Fall? They don't.

Bottom line they know when hunting season is. And granted you live in an area where there are not many poachers or a fall season, they don't mind the summer/fall woods very much

Lots of turkeys killed on public ground (even occasionally by me) where birds put up with folks year around. Hunt it!

Also most of the time the turkeys spend their time in different areas in the fall, than the do in the spring.
