4-22-17 kill - 04/22/17 03:09 PM

Went to what I call my honey hole this morning. Pulled up at the gate and their was 2 trucks parked so me and buddy said nope not going here. We pulled out to where we found service and pulled Google earth up. He found a spot and I had an idea of a spot on B side. Neither of us had ever been to either spot we mentioned nor really looked it over on the map. So we took my spot I suggested. We finally get to the gate and noticed it was unlocked. I told him I don't think we can drive through here. So we parked the truck and got to walking. Came to one place and looked around. It was around 5:50. We hit our owl call and got nothing so we walked about a mile and came to a gf and walked out the end of it. Was gonna setup a 100 yards through the woods. Looked around seen no sign and I didn't like it. So he mouth called. Got nothing I pulled out the Gobble tube got nothin. I figured I pull out a new call I made last night Glass over Walnut. Few clucks & yells and 3 Gobblers sounded off about 3/4 mile from us. I hit it a few more times so we could pin point where they were and once again they answered me back. We walk back to gf and I called again real loud 5yelps and he cut me off. We made a B line to them. We closed halfway in and one of them is Gobbling his head every time we stop and call. We finally realize they are off in a big bottom. No way to get down as it was a bluff 70' drop. That bird is moving away from us We finally get closed in where we are within a 100 yards of him and setup in some thick stuff where a little finger comes out of this bottom. After a few mins setting their. We are soft calling and he is answering back and every now and then I would hear another sound way off. Thunder hits and he gives us a triple Gobble. We go dead silent on him for about 6-7 mins as we notice he ain't coming in. Finally after going silent he can't take it anymore. He starts searching for us and I could hear him in the leaves and turn my gun to him and finally see his head pop up and I get on him. He makes 2 more steps and thats all she wrote

Thanks guys. This is my 2nd bird. I'm hoping Monday morning I get my 3rd. I'm going after the one that was sounding way off. Hopefully he will still be in the area
