Thanks guys! The deer scored 148 7/8. My best bow kill.
I was supposed to leave one of my jobs in Evergreen late morning or lunch time headed to the camp. All hell broke loose and I didn't leave until about 5:00 so I didn't roll into the camp til about 1 a.m. Got up at 4:30 and got in a tree, had a buck of a lifetime come in directly behind me around 7:45/8:00, there was some spruce and cedar trees behind me so the deer was basically walking on pine straw, I never heard him til he was 30 yards behind me...he ended up walking 8 steps from my tree...he looked up at me, he didn't bust me but knew something wasn't right! He looked away one time and I was able to get my bow and get my release hooked up, I just needed him to look away one more time and he weas dead! He knew something wasn't right and went back about 30-40 yards behind me and hung out for 5 minutes trying to figure out what wasa going on and then left...I'm guessing he was in the 170's...If I would of had a throwing star I could of killed him. To say I was sick was an understatement!
Fast forward to that evening, the buck I killed came out and hooked a tree and made a scrape about 80 yards from me before coming in the field. he was 44 yards from me when I ranged him to shoot but he turned and went around a big cedar tree in the field. I quickly ranged the side where he was going to step out and it was 28 yards. I drew back waiting on him, I could barely see him through the tree then he decided to make another scrape with just his head and neck showing...I would say it lasted a solid minute and a half to 2 minutes before he finished up. When he walked out, I couldn't hold it much longer, he was quartering to me just a tad and I let it eat!
Let him lay for an hour and went looking for him, I heard what i thought was him get up so I eased back out and came back in the moring. It was extremely foggy so i didn't get started until about 7:30...he was def the hardest deer I've ever tracked since I didn't get a complete pass through! Ended up finding him around 10:15/10:30. It's hard to say how far he went, he made a big U, if I had to guess, I would say he went 3-400 yards!Craziest thing about the whole thing is about 80 yards from where he died, he walked about 20' off of the trail he was on to either check a scrape or make one! There was blood the size of a basketball at the scrape! A whitetail's desire to live is unbelievable! I was hunting by myslef, even had to use the new option on iPhone where you set the timer to take the picture...lol...If ya'll could of seen me propping camera up on four-wheeler, pressing the button, and then jumping down there with the deer and waiting for it to take the pic I'm sure it was pretty comical...I was truely blessed and humbled by the whole experience!
