Fixing to head to an acorn flat. After I get done this morning I've got to head over to the ridge where Emmett shot his buck and try to find his bolt. Damn my legs and back are sore from dragging that joker out last night.

Re: LFTT 11/2/14 - 11/02/14 08:03 AM

I feel like I'm getting back to my roots. I'm in jeans and an old hoodie, and a borrowed 20 year old pair of coveralls that are way too short. Borrowed 270 and an orange vest and I'm off. Get dropped off and was told walk that way and find a big rock to set up next to. So I did. Set up over looking a south facing ridge with beautiful untouched mountain hardwoods. White oaks raining. Rut is supposed to be about right here in Paulding county, GA.

We (nephew and I) waited (slept in) and just got in the stands a little after 10. Good intel says deer have been moving after 10 here the last few days. We are set up in the same spot as yesterday evening. Fingers crossed that this young man gets a crack at his first bow kill.

Nice picture I'd love to be laying on the top of that hill with my 7 mag once rifle season comes In. Looks like you could stretch one out

A Big nanner ran off with my luminock at about 9am.. Couldn't find her in the thick brush. These Rage's are awesome when they hit perfect but not getting a pass through is frustrating.

Re: LFTT 11/2/14 - 11/02/14 07:54 PM

Went this morning for the first time and saw 1 big bodied deer out in a clearcut at 6:50. At 7:00 another goober club member decided he was going to hunt about 200 yards away from me and he needed to drive his 4 wheeler right by me and all the way through the area I was hunting so that he didn't need to walk more than 15 feet. At 8:35 he was done so he had to drive back through my area so I scouted the area a little and found a couple of great rifle spots. We had 1200 acres to our selves and he had to jack my hunt up. I'm not a fan of driving 4 wheelers all throughout the property but I understand that some need to for health reasons. If that is the case try to get to your spot early and stay for a few hours.

Re: LFTT 11/2/14 - 11/02/14 08:17 PM

Stuck a doe high behind the shoulder about 2 o'clock. She ran about 80 yards looked around and started walking. Got down at 4 and started looking for blood. My dad came and helped me look. Never found a drop of blood. Just meat on the arrow no blood. Maybe she will make it. Watched her circle through the woods and walk back behind me.

Re: LFTT 11/2/14 - 11/02/14 08:49 PM

Finally got my first ever deer with a bow...she came out at about 8:30 this morning...I drew back and had to hold it for like 3 minutes or more but she was behind a tree...I did this 3 different times..having to hold a bow back in the cold will make a man of you LOL..she finally started walking and I took the broadside shot at about 25 yards...I heard a loud thud and watched her run about 40 yards and fall...went and retrieved my arrow..the slick trick magnum did it's job..I had a complete pass thru and the slug hole entrance...now I am super excited and forever hooked now..I was using my sons diamond bow with maxima blue arrows and strings that Shaw built for him last year..

Re: LFTT 11/2/14 - 11/02/14 09:02 PM

I had 4 does and a 5 pt on the field at once. I finally got a shot on the biggest doe about dark and made a bad shot. She wound up running up the hill and walked the ridge blowing till her yearling joined her. New one on me no blood and just a little fluid and hair on the arrow with no smell.

Re: LFTT 11/2/14 - 11/02/14 09:12 PM

Upon further inspection of my broadhead when I got back home there are two clearly defined "knicks" on 2 of 3 blades on my muzzy mx-3 so it appears that I hit a twig or small branch that deflected my arrow low. No mark on the third blade. Upon watching the arrow leave my bow it looked like a good shot. Had my HHA set at 23 and ranged the shot afterwards at 26, I was aiming up just behind her shoulder for the lungs. I am just glad it deflected low to miss her completely and didn't hit in a bad spot. Chalk this up to a learning experience. Glad to get some action.
