Oh man I can breathe, I feel alive again. Just got settled in my tree up about 15 ft in a hardwood lined ridge right in front of a good choke point. Not where I planned to be but better ... met a young man who has hunted here all his life and he led me here on his way up the ridge. Pics later
Live from Bankhead National Forest. Ready to shoot. I didn't think this day would ever get here. I'm hunting a good trail around the top side of a bluff between sawtooths and bedding area. Wind is perfect. Good luck guys and gals.

In a hardwood creek bottom looking at water oaks and a freshly planted hidey hole green field about 20x20yds. Biggest deer killed on this prop was shot here, so I know I'm in a good area. Gonna give it a sporting chance here this morn then headed to my farm this afternoon for some real hunting!

And damn that turkey that was making such a racket in the tree 20 yards behind me, I don't need that on a super quiet morning bro.

Saw several. Got clipped up on a nanner head but she busted me before I could get a shot. Got clipped on another that turned out to be a small buck, so I passed. Saw a batchlor group (out of range) with a couple shooters. One had something going on with his right antler, I hunt thick stuff so couldn't tell exactly what. Looked like he had a drop tine growing down by he eye or a double beam. Maybe get a chance to see him at a later date.
Got busted three times by 9. Had a South wind I needed but I think the damp air was swirlling my scent.
This is my 38th season with a bow.
GOOD LUCK

Re: LFTT 10/15 - 10/15/14 07:12 PM
Just got back from Cahaba WMA. No cell service while there. Saw 6 does and 3 fawns. BUT the highlight of my day came around 3 PM.
I decided to get down around 2 PM to scout another area and put my cameras out where I was hunting a particular buck last year. I had to clear a path that I used last year just to get to the location so I'm making quite a bit of noise getting through there. I finally get to the spot where last years scraps and rubs were and the bucks trail was noticeably still used because it's worn down more than it was last year so I'm excited at this point. Now all I need to do is get this camera strapped on then I'm backing out.
While strapping the camera to the tree I hear a very loud stick SNAP right behind me, it startled me because I was so focused on being quiet, as I turned around I see a large doe running full speed straight at me! I just froze and things start to happen in slow motion lol. As I jumped out of my boots she takes a hard left literally about 5 feet away from me and keeps trucking. It happened so fast I didn't know what to think.
I figured she was already running on the trail I was placing the camera on and didn't see me, then when she scared me I turned and scared her at the same time. I think me and her both about crapped ourselves.
She was one of the does I saw earlier in the morning but she had her fawn with her then. I knew it was her because she is the lightest colored doe I've ever seen and was noticeably older.

Ended up jumping a doe on the way in, and had one come under my stand right after dark. Try again tomorrow.

Congrats to those who connected!
And I'm jealous of all of you who were in the woods, whether you killed one or not!

Buddy of mine is looking for one now, first deer with a bow, wish I was able to help him track it... Sounds like they were moving this afternoon.

His post had nothing to do with deer. He's over at Jamal's house and got mixed up on what forum he was posting in

Hmmm
Way to get it done guys on the opening day kills. Makes it that much harder for us in southern zone seeing all these kills and having to wait another 10 days.
