Arrows too light?

This may be a little long but need some help/reassurance! Ok, so I bought a New Breed Lycan bow back in the summer and have been practicing a lot and trying to finish prep for season. It is 27" draw, ~62 lb DW right now but prob going to 65 lbs over the next couple days. Trying to make it back to the bow shop to talk to them, but schedule has been prohibitive lately.

Anyway, when I went to Grabow to pick it up and get it set up, rests/sights/etc installed, and get arrows, they recommended the Gold Tip Velocity 400s for me and my set up. They cut them, installed the inserts, etc. Well fast forward to now, and I've been doing more reading and research on arrow weights and what not and am a little concerned about the weight of my arrows for hunting.

The Velocity XTs are 7.4 gpi and are ~26.5" long. I ran the GoldTip calculator as best I could and came up with just under 335 grains w/ FOC of a little under 15%. Today I also weighed them on a scale (food one in grams though and converted to grains) which came out to between 335-340 as well. I have run calculators to get my approx. arrow speed based on IBO and everything, and plug into the GoldTip KE calculator and come in right around 60 ft-lbs (+/- a little depending what I tweak). I tried playing with increasing arrow weight and speed, and without dramatic changes, it seems this 60 ft-kb KE is where I'll be.

So, I guess I just need to know if these arrows and broad head combo are going to be fine for me at distances of 30 yards or less. I know a lot of people seem to sling significantly heavier arrows, so all this reading has made me nervous. Should I switch to the standard slick tricks?

With this being my first year bow hunting, I just want to make sure I'm doing right by the animals I'm after. I feel like I'll be fine with this arrow and the ST Magnums, but just want some opinions

That's plenty of KE.

We'll tuned bows, and sharp arrows make a big difference in penetration. You should have both of those covered with the new bow and slick tricks.

I spin check all my shafts and BH to make sure there gonna fly straight, and practice shooting 1 of the broad heads.

I do prefer a heavy arrow though. Mine are about 435gr with a 28" draw, don't know my shaft length off the top of my head.

Those arrows with 100gr tips will be just fine. I also would leave the draw weight at 62#. The 5 fps speed you'll gain is not worth the extra weight. When the moment of truth comes and your knees are knocking together and you can feel your heartbeat in your throat, 65# will feel like 100#.

I shot and broad head tuned my bow over the weekend with the Magnums. At first was hitting ~2" lower than FPs, but good horizontally. Bumped my rest up and all is good now. The ST Mags are flying well out to 30 yards (which is as far as I'm comfortable shooting consistently thus far) after broad head tuning them.
I chose the Mags based on the fact that they suggest them for deer, but was curious if I should have chosen the standards for more penetration.

That's a good point that I hadn't really thought of. I think I'll leave it since it is shooting well for me as it is with field points and the ST Mags. Thanks for the input. Starting to feel a little better, especially since I figure if I do my part and put it in the boiler room, this set up will do its job and I'll be digging the arrow out of the dirt.

Touch those blades up after you shoot them. Scary sharp is what you want.

You'll be fine with that set up. If it shoots good at 62#, I would leave it there.

Thanks for the input! I definitely feel better about things now. I'll give this set up a whirl this year and see how things go. If I have to make adjustments, I will have all off-season to do so. Was nervous about making dramatic changes a month out from opener anyway but wanted to make them ASAP if needed.

I been shooting the 400 GT Velocity XTs three years now. Mine are 29in and the KE is 65. I've been more that pleased with them sliding through deer with no problems at all...as long as I do my part with a well placed shot.

Those boys at grabows are never going to steer your wrong. If you want the man ask for James Hornbuckle. Or his boss Renea.

Yup...Stay away from Grady and BB...them two just nuts...

I'd stay outta arms reach of Grady fo sho haha. one time back years ago he was playing around with a mutual friend of ours & reached into the car window and slapped his arse so hard we all thought he killed him. wasnt even mad just messing with the guy. scared the boy so bad he moved 700 miles away lol. that boy was nutty as a squirrel turd back in the day.
