Re: ***2014 Bow Kill Thread*** - 09/04/14 01:58 PM

I'm going to do a little contest this year. All members that post a deer kill in this thread on October 15th will have their names put in for a drawing for a free set of my strings. The deer must be an Alabama kill. To try and avoid any dishonesty, I will post a picture on October 14th. A photo including you, the deer, your bow and the picture I post must be included in the photo in your post. If you can't print the photo, include a piece of paper with the phrase written on it. If all of the mentioned items are not visible in your photo, your name will not be put in the hat. Only photos posted before 12am the night of Oct. 15 will be eligible for the drawing.

I'm not forgetting about you southern zone hunters either. I will do the same for all southern zone deer kill posts on October 25th. Same rule applies. It must be an Alabama deer and a photo or phrase provided with all of the before mentioned items. On the evening of Oct. 24 I will post a photo for y'all to use. Also to make things a little easier on me, please post "Southern Zone Kill" in the first line of your post. All photos eligible for the drawing must be posted before 12am.

And guys, we're all adults here, so let's keep it honest. No northern zone kills will be eligible for the second drawing.

In addition to a set of my strings, each winner will also receive $50 cash courtesy of RobertM.

The winners will have the option of me mailing the string set to them or if they want to make the trip to see me, I will install them and set the bow up. The winners will have between the end of deer season and July 1, 2015 to claim their string set.

The winners of the contest will win strings for a vertical bow only. Sorry, I don't build xbow strings.

For all of those that have already taken a deer from out of state, congrats. Because of the contest, please wait until tomorrow to post them.

Congrats Casey! I had a doe with two fawns feed on acorn right underneath me. I'm doing an all day sit so hopefully a lone doe or nice buck will come out.

Congrats on the deer. You need your bow in the pic, not the dog.

Josht101 is legal now. I had already PM'd him about not having his bow in the pic.

Here's WillyB's kill pic with his little man helping him out. It was taken in Greene County. He never made it to his tree this evening. He squatted down next to a cedar and literally had deer all over him the whole afternoon. Congrats William. thumbup

Re: ***2014 Bow Kill Thread*** - 11/20/14 10:25 PM

Well I set up in a hardwood draw this morning and saw 20 deer. All does and little ones. I set up this afternoon on a foodplot. I got there at 1:00pm because I expected the deer to move early. At 3:00 I had a doe come out but she only stayed about 2 minutes because 3 longbeards came up the draw behind me and she evidently didn't like the sound of them walking in the leaves. At 4:15 two bucks came out from my left. The squirrels on my right were making noise in the leaves so I was looking to the right and when I looked back at the field the bucks were standing there. One was a small 3pt the other a messed up 8pt. I started not to shoot them but its two days from gun season and I haven't killed a deer yet. Besides I have never killed a buck with a kicker point before. He was 35yds and starting to feed away so I took the shot and made a perfect double lung shot. I made sure I stayed away from the shoulder this time. He has a kicker on the right and double brows on the left. He's no monster but a decent buck for a bow kill.

Are these hunts DIY or guided? One of my goals is to go on a DIY elk hunt and kill one. I don't care if it's a satellite bull. Congrats.

Buck or Doe: 8pt

Date:01.03.2015

Time:11:00AM ...right after the rain stopped.

State & County: Bullock County, AL

Stand location details: Lock-on in a hard wood bottom between planted pines. Pouring rain all morning then as soon as it stopped the deer flood gates opened. Small 8pt walked by trailing some does. Let him walk. Then I glassed a 130" 10pt off at 80yds going away. Then this guy came sloshing up through the flood water. He walked right under my stand. I drew back and hit the 'drop shot spot' and he fell straight to the ground. All I could do was stair at my shaking hands & him for about 10min. What a great hunt!!! YES!!! Big thumbs up to John, Craig, Paul & Al!!
