accuracy problems - 03/31/14 09:55 PM

I am having a problem with shots going high right. Not every shot just maybe 1 out of 10. It all started sunday at the asa shoot after I had a 0 on target 20. We started on target 12 and I was 4 up by target 20 when as I was settling in for the shot I let the bow have to much slack and it went down and when I tried to stop it I bunped the trigger sending the arrow 3 feet over the target. I tried to block it out and move on since I was only 6 down now. Next shot a perfect 12. now only 4 down with 12 targets left, still time to recover. Next target high 5. It is really getting to me now. Next 4 targets I shoot center 10's then another 5 then a 10 then two 5's and last target center 10. These 5's are all high and right on close targets. I thought it might be some kind of target panic but I have been shooting groups sunday and this afternoon after work and have ruled out target panic. Could only get it to do it one time today but probably did it 15 times in 100 shots sunday. I am leaning toward the qad rest not getting out of the way after taking the hit(which took a fletching off) from the 3/4 draw shot at target 20. Any suggestions of other possible causes.
This is a normal 20yd group.

This is a problem group at 20 yds.

This is a 40yd group.

This is one shot from 20,25,30,35,40,and 45yds.

Is it the same arrow maybe?? I know I flung a few wild ones last year and it got me pretty pissed. My loop was slipping up and causing me some problems. Other than that, I'll wait and read what the experts come up with.

Have you checked the timing on the rest? Also, when the rest is in the down position, is the launcher in it's normal position? The QAD's are supposed to have break away feature which drops the rest if it takes a hard hit before disengaging. It's possible that the internal gear could've been damaged. Try cocking and decocking it manually a few times and see if anything feels weird.

Everything feels normal. Timing marks line up and launcher seems to be in the right place, cocked and decocked. I powdered the launcher so I could tell if it hit it again but I couldn't get it to do it again. Everything seems to point to the rest not getting out of the way. At any rate I am going to put a mathews downforce on it friday to hopefully solve the problem. At least I can say I shot a tournament without shooting an 8.

I can't get a tight group outside of 20 .. Arrow flight looks good . I'm thinking it's a couple thing .. He put a big peep sight in 3/8 and I got .010 pins .. And I'm slightly near sighted with with glasses .. I haven't had anyone watch me shoot to help me .. Gonna get my wife to video me today that may show me if it's me or my arrow flight ..

in most instances poor grouping is usually the shooter. can be caused from inconsistant anchor point punching the trigger or torquing the bow.

i have a little routine i go through with every shot. i first get my grip right before drawing back once at full draw with eyes closed i get to my anchor point then open my eyes if i have to adjust to get a clear view through the peep i let down and start over. once at correct anchor i make sure bubble is level and sight is centered in my peep. then i slowly bring the pin down on target. as the pin starts getting close to target i focus on tightening my finger on the trigger. when pin is where i want it a gentle squeeze is all it takes. dont forget to keep aiming at the target until the arrow hits.

Is there a best anchoring point ? I've moved my peep down a little to fit me but still unsure it's right

My limited experience with these type of adjustments is that it is hard to do it by myself. The bow tech at the shop watched me and knew what to do.

best way i can explain it is draw your bow with eyes closed get to your anchor point where it feels most comfortable and open your eyes. if you have to adjust to see through the peep then the peep is not set right. the most important part of shooting accuately is doing everything the same every time.

Make sure the rest is not bouncing back up. My QAD had the interal brake go out and bouncing back up. It only made contact on an arrow every now and then. It is pretty hard to diagnose as well. I was not aware of this feature but struggled to figure out my problem till a friend of mine who works on bows and knew a QAD rep. checked it out for me. Apparently this occasionally happens according to the rep.

I have had an arrow ever so often fly funny .. Like it the fletching .. I'm thinking now of changing rest ... Thanks to sluggun and now u nighthunter .. My problem is mostly me but I can't take a chance with a rest that may mess up on ole big boy

number your arrows that way you will know if it is the same arrow that is causing the problem.
