Bow Addiction

Bow Addiction - 03/19/14 07:46 AM

This may be common and may wear off at some point down the road, but man I love shooting my bow! I've only had it a few weeks, so maybe the new hasn't worn off yet. This may sound a little goofy, but when I take my son to his 4H archery club and they talk about state and national competition, it makes me wish I was shooting with them. But then I remember that I'm an adult and have to go back to work on Monday.

I know my 10 year old High Country is nothing compared to the latest Matthews or Hoyt, but I love everything about it. The way it feels in my hand, the sound of the arrow flying, and watching my stupid cheap bag target fall over when my arrow hits it just right.

Don't get me wrong, I like guns and I like watching a watermelon explode when I shoot it with my 30.06, but there is something about archery that just makes me wish I had time to shoot every day. Anyone who can make a living running a bow shop or shooting professionally is a lucky person in my book.

Okay. I'll stop now.

Have you shot any 3D targets yet? If not, and you think you have the "bug", now, wait till you start shooting them on the weekends.

X2. You aint felt nothing till you shoot (or shoot AT) your first deer with it. It will eat you up inside. you are thrilled but at the same times anxious to get it done again.

Go to the BHA tournament schedule thread and find a shoot near you and go shoot someone else's targets. If you think you have the bug now just wait until you have shot 3d compitition.

Do you have to be a BHA member to compete? I went to watch a friend shoot at one of these last year. I have thought about it, but judging by some of the competition that was there, I would most likely go home embarrassed.

No you do not have to be a member. But just a warning, you start winning them, you'll be shonuff hooked. grin

The northern zone bha shoot is in marshall county this weekend. If you want to meet there I'll shoot with you. I'm looking for a reason to go.

Ask around. They have a range over in hokes bluff. Don't know the hours or days open but I think they had a BHA shoot there last summer as well.

I think I have the bow addiction too! I killed my 60th deer with a bow this past season, and it hasn't gotten old yet!

Yeah I live less than a mile from that range in Hokes Bluff. Its only open when they have something going on. I just shoot in my yard for now.

in another thread i invited you to the 3d shoot we are having in talladega this weekend and you never replied, there is nothing to be embarrassed about, by the looks of your groups you have posted on here you could probably hold your own anyways. you and your son would have a blast, there are men, women, teens, little boys, little girls, and old men all shooting, it is a really good time and you are sure to make friends and learn alot of things. shooting 3d is in my opinion the best way to become a proficient bowhunter. not everyone shoots in the same class either, if you want to shoot a max range of 30 yards there is a class for that, you wont be competing against people with 3000 dollar target bows with 5 foot stabilizers, they have their own class. i do like to get a good score but i am there more for refining my bowhunting shots and for the camraderie sp? than to win the shoot. i have made quite a few friends and i have only been to one shoot so far. if yall want to come, it is this saturday at top trails in talladega. pm me and i will give you directions

These couple of threads have me pumped up about shooting my bow. I think I will beak it out when I get home this weekend and start preping for bow season. Season opens in early September in North Carolina. I keep sayng I am going to do more bowhunting because I have yet to get one with a bow. One of the guys I hunt with says I'll gun hunt again once I draw blood with a bow. Hopefully this will be the year.
