Shaw this deer caught me so off guard I was doing good just to get drawn! I never knew he was there until a doe fawn picked her head up and stood alert looking behind me. I eased around and saw him at 20 walking directly to my tree. He caught my scent at about 7 yards and locked up. Then he threw his head up and made that turn and whirl. Well, I was already at full draw and he literally gave a second to settle and release. I knew the shot was high, but it was at a steep angle. He ran off and I knew it looked good. I heard a few seconds of silence and then the crash. Took me about an hour to get down. I’ve not been that shook up in a while.

Congrats bud. Nothing like those surprise bucks. Your exit looks perfect. I surprised myself Saturday and never got shook up on mine. I had to put my bow back on the hanger pretty quick after he ran off before I dropped it out of the tree. My hands and knees started shaking like crazy.

Question. What happens during the life span of a buck that causes him to grow a rack that tight and tall? To me he looks like an old swamp buck that the TV hunters talk about. That’s what came to my mind when I saw the picture. Besides being a hellofva deer.
