LFTT 10/21 - 10/21/21 12:36 PM

Live from the truck this morning. Headed down to Portland Landing SOA for the weekend. Will be in the tree after lunch, hopefully we’ll stack some deer up!

Set up on an acorn flat in Greene County again. I’m in a different area than the previous few hunts. Might pop a nannerhead if I get a chance.

Seen 6 so far here in KS. Lots of chasing, fighting, and grunting starting to happen. Saw a broke up buck that would have gone in the 20s if he had all his horns. However, I’m on a farm with a 150” minimum. There are 2 absolute giants on this farm I’ve been playing musical stands with.

Got in the stand a little early today, I’ve had three prior sits and saw deer but they were either too young or it was too dark to shoot. Hoping to drop a slick head today

Just got set up for the first hunt on Portland. Man is it hot. Watching a couple red and water oaks that have been getting hit pretty hard in between a thick stand of pines and an open hardwood bottom.

Set back up in the same spot as this morning. I haven’t had to break the thermacell out at my club, but down here in Greene County it’s another story. I’ve never seen the skeeters this bad in the 16 years I’ve hunted her. The walk to and from the stand is downright miserable.

I’m here in Bankhead getting a wet tail right now. This visor is not helping!

I’ve been in the stand since about 3. First time I’ve bow hunted in probably 4 years or better. 1 doe so far.

One more doe just came through at about 70. I wish a big nanny without a fawn would come into range.

Unit 5. Seeing tons of deer. This makes me want to say the hell with hunting Alabama. Our deer hunting absolutely sucks!

Passed a 3yo 8 point. Took some pics of him, will upload when I’ve got better service. Headed to help another group get a buck out

I passed a 3yo 8 point up there last year. It’s some great hunting up there.

Mine hung in the thick. One got downwind. Stomped and blew.

Here’s the buck I passed this afternoon. I think he probably would have just made the antler restrictions but I didn’t want to chance it plus I know there’s bigger deer here.

Looks like a pretty damn nice buck to me. What are the antler restrictions?

16” inside spread or 18” main beam

Re: LFTT 10/21 - 10/22/21 03:29 AM

I think he was safe on the main beam length.

He probably was, and I’m not saying I wouldn’t shoot him on our last hunt sunday. But I really do feel like there’s a chance of seeing a much bigger deer here.

I don’t blame you I wish we saw what you’ve seen at Uchee last week.

Good job passing up those bucks guys. Nothing exciting about either one of those bucks. That’s how big deer are made!
