Great morning to be in the woods! First sit of the year for me and first time ever climbing with tree gaffs in the dark. All I can say is I’m glad to be standing on my platform now lol.

Nice kill. I rolled my ankle on the way in this morning. I’m sure I won’t see a thing after that crash I took. Dropped my bow and everything. Foot is throbbing but I’m gona hang in here for a little while.

You done moved from early this morning? Or just a different direction?
I used to enjoy a little ground hunting with a bow. I used to enjoy hunting with a bow, before my shoulders quit on me. 😕
Nothing this morning, think it’ll be a better afternoon?

Couldn't get a shot???
I had a doe and fawn cruise by me (out of range) just before 9:00...daylight activity for the last week (according to my cameras and a few hunts) has been very minimal here

Same spot. The pic was just really zoomed in. Saw about a dozen does and that buck continued over the crest of the hill.
I had just got into bow hunting around 2011 but hurt my shoulder in 2013 so I backed off it for the most part. It’s gotten healed enough that I was confident enough to pick up a new bow and sold the crossbow.
I used to be all about tree stands but a ground setup is 2x lighter. I bought a cheapo 40$ Ghillie thing from amazon, or I just rig alittle camo netting between two fiberglass poles. I just kick back in my turkey lounger and wait.

I’m bow hunting Portland landing SOA, you know, your favorite place. They have to be 4.5 to be killed here..
Last night I saw over 15 racked bucks, with 5 being shooters on a big clover field.. none came within range of course..

That’s about 3x what I find in a whole season.

It was crazy how many bucks were out there..
I moved my stand to where they were at last night, but of course the wind is acting crazy..

I'm back in the same tree as yesterday. Anything with horns is going down. Even if it's a quailman special!
Went with a buddy to his place this morning. Saw six out of a stand I helped him Find a place for on a ridge about a month ago. Ate some fine BBQ and banana pudding. Then helped him cut a place in a fence row and put a tripod in it, We saw a few deer while doing that.
Congrats to the killas!

Wife got her first bow kill this morning. Big doe at yards. First hunt of the year and first time carrying the Xbow. She tore ligaments in her ankle last Monday. So she is on crutches and has a boot on. We wrapped the boot in a garbage bag to keep it dry and she hobbled in and helped trail it. Only her second deer ever.

Passed up more shots on a few does this afternoon. Seen a fawn still nursing so I’ll probably hold off on bagging one til the first of the year.
No bucks to be seen this afternoon.

I stuck a nice 8 point and he went into the thickest crap on the club .....gonna go back in the morning with some help and see if we can find him. I shot him right below the neck straight on, the arrow buried about 10 inches deep, when he turned into the woods the arrow came out. No blood trail, so I am thinking he may be filling the chest cavity .....hopefully
I hope so too good luck!!

Found him! Guys I’ve been hunting about 22 years and killed some nice ones but I’ve outdid myself this evening . A 10 point has always eluded me, but I can check that off my bucket list now. Still riding a adrenaline high! Shot him at 25 yards at 6:30 this evening. Thank you lord
