What poundage do you shoot?

Really liked a 60# bow I tried this weekend.
How much speed is enough?

63# and fast enough to kill whatever I’m hunting. High poundage is no good if you can’t aim small.

70 with a fairly heavy arrow

I shoot 73# because I can comfortably. I recommend shooting what’s comfortable because everyone is going to be different. The year after I had shoulder surgery I was shooting 55# and killed them just fine. Good luck

That’s my point Kodak. Some of these young bucks be rippin those arrows but can’t hit the side of a barn. Not to mention they’ll be struggling with all kinds of movement to get it pulled back.

60 is plenty. I'm honestly not sure if mine is 60 or 70.

60 is plenty. Just get the right draw LENGTH.

It's really all about being comfortable behind the bow if your comfortable at 60lb shoot it my wife hunts with 55 if your comfortable with 75-80 shoot it. Having a bow set up to fit you and choosing an arrow and broadhead combo that works with your draw weight is way more important than the speed.

62#. If you can’t comfortably draw your bow from a seated position without “sky drawing” it, you’re pulling too much weight.

I pull 90lbs but 80 feels so good that I shoot 65....

Exactly Sonny. Ive practiced with folks that point their bow up, struggle to draw it and then bring it down to aim. I just shake my head.

I ask them if they really think a deer is going to tolerate all that movement? You have to be able to SMOOTHLY draw when seated for sure or youre pulling way to much weight . Mine is around 63 or 64#'s.

My uncle always said his waist was a 38 but 40's felt so good he wore 42's.

I pull 82# but mostly because I always have. I have a long draw and don't cut down my arrows (cause it would only be 3/8 inch at most) so I feel like if I can still pull it then why change.

But I had surgery on my shoulder 25 years ago and messed it up this summer playing a diving game with my kids. Since I've been having issues with it popping out of socket causing me considerable pain and weakness. So, I may have to adjust it lower. (plus, I'm getting old and weak)

Hunting bow is 62#, backup is 52#. Killed deer with both. Today’s bows shoot plenty fast without much weight, the first deer I killed with an old PSE was shooting 175fps I wanna say. It’s all about shot placement.

I've had three shoulder surgeries so I'm only pulling about 53 lbs. I just use really sharp broadheads.

50 lbs with a gold tip 400 arrow tipped with a 100 gr wasp boss broadhead. Shoots a blazing 220 fps.

I envy you guys with newer bows. 60# probably equals my 80# pull on my POS.

56# was shooting 65#. Shot a doe last day of season 23 yd shot. 475 gr arrow with fixed blade head. Full pass thru. A lot more enjoyable to shoot. Mathews halon 6 27.5” draw.

72# but I am a pretty good size boy. Working with my 8 yr old on his bow set at about 30#

My old ass Mathews varies from 68-72 depending on the string. I tighten it up when it gets too low.

Bam! I shoot 63 now after shooting 70 (actually the bow shop said it was 72) my whole life. My realization was when I couldn't pull it back while seated (tried hunting from a ground blind for the first time and had a panic that afternoon when I tried to draw and couldn't)

Anyone remember back in the day when Dan Fitzgerald use to be at the deer show. He was passing his bow around and no one could budge it. Handed it to me and I pulled it back with ease and if remember right I think he told everyone it was 95 lbs. At that time I was shooting an 80 something pound now because that was the only way to get speed with those huge aluminum arrows. Now I shoot 69 lbs and honestly believe that’s to much.

62#, I’m on the heavy arrow train now so I may change it up a bit.

For reference my 32 inch 2317s of old seemed heavy. 125 gr. 3 blade muzzys where like lobbing bricks out if a bear whitetail.

Been shooting 55# for years.

I can sit in a chair and shoot 65# 15+ times without ever moving bow sights off target during draw. Think i'll stay with that. With as fast as these bow shoot now. I cant understand why someone wants to kill their shoulder or chance spooking the monster of a lifetime fighting to draw a bow in the stand.

175 but it's a crossbow.

45 lb longbow, 40 lb or 45 lb recurve. No problem killing what I am shooting at at the ranges that I like to shoot. I used to shoot 80 lb bows when I thought I needed to be a man. Then wisdom took over and I enjoy shooting a whole lot more now 30 years later. So advice, hyped up speed and weight are just that hype. Shoot what is comfortable and is properly tuned and correctly spined arrows.

yes; i would add -- it's also important to do this STONE COLD -- as the first thing you do in the morning ... things get different 30' up a tree in 30/40 deg weather

70# for me.

Just had a new string put on my Hoyt and I walked out of the store with it on 67 lbs. I have been shooting 64 lbs for years. I can comfortably shoot it at 67 so I’ll likely leave it there. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been so as long as I can do it I will.
