Single pin sight.

First and foremost, I’m not a bowhunter, nor have I ever claimed to be. I have occasionally hunted with a bow, but it’s not something I’ve ever preferred. That being said, I plan on going on a public land archery trip this fall and want to start getting my ducks in a row. I know I need to be shooting as much as I can before then... trust me I need the practice.

I currently own a Mathews Switchback with a 70#. I’ll mostl likely back it down to 65# but I’m not sure on that. I want to make this as simple as possible, so I’m wanting to know is it practical to set a single fixed pin that would get me from zero to 30 yards?

ive been looking pretty hard at the Trophy Ridge Alpha. Have had Spot Hogg and HHA in the past, currently have multipin set up.

there are guys who are much better than me at shooting, but I have used a single pin out to 40 since I switched to carbon arrows (15 years?). Now, when I was shooting 2317 easton's with 125 grain broadheads it wouldn't work cause my arrows are full length 32 inches. Carbons make a heck of a difference

You'll probably be shooting 340ish-400 grain arrows if you have a shorter draw and pull 65, so it can work. I would set a 30 yard pin and then just shoot at 10, 15, 20, and 25. See how much higher you are. You may find you can shoot 1 pin out to 40? or need a 0-25 pin and a 35ish pin? You won't know until you shoot what you feel the most comfortable at. Some of it is how good you are at judging distance.

Simpler is gone be fixed pins
Depending on your effective range would determine how many pins you would need weather 3,4 or 5.
Single pins are alit less cluttered and more expensive but you can set it at say 28 yds and be able to shoot to 35 with practice are learning where to aim
If 30 is gone be your effective range I would find a 3 pin fixed sight and set a 20 and 30 yard pin and drop the bottom pin down out of the way and use 2 pins

You can do the fixed single pin but, ya just gotta learn ya drop/holdover

That’s correct but it can serve as a fixed pin plus give him more versatility if desired without the clutter or multiple pins. It’s all personal preference.

3 pin slider. It’s fixed with the bottom pin as the floater. Best of both worlds.

I use a Spot Hogg single pin. Keep it set at 25 yards so anything 0 to 30 is no problem, just a little holding high or low.

But if one is at 40 yards, there is nothing like being able to range the deer, turn the dial to 40 and center "PINCH" ( tribute to whild bull ) him holding dead on with that single pin.

I have a black gold single pin and shoot one pin from 10 to 35 yards. At 35 yards my arrow drops 6 imches which when I aim at top of heart double lungs will hit bottom of heart without the deer dropping. But I expect deer to drop and allow my arrow to fall into where they will be. I'm spot on to 25 then 2 inch drop at 30 and 6 inch at 35.

This sounds like what I want. You have your pin set for 25 yards?

It's an adjustable sight, you can set it where ya want. I keep my 60# bow at 25, my 70# bow on 30. Death if 40 or less if I do my part. If farther out like last year's bull, I adjust. You just need to learn the bow and you know where to aim

Yes, one pin will work. I love a single pin for less confusion and eliminates the clutter in your sight picture from a multi pin sight.
