I think I missed

I think I missed - 11/17/19 01:18 AM

Let me ask a question, I took a shot at a large Doe this morning and it appeared that my arrow glanced off of a branch and I missed. The deer bolted only 4-5 of steps before she stopped, she then trotted off with the white flag waving bye bye. I though to myself that I must have missed because I saw my arrow lying on the ground. I never got down to inspect the arrow. Finished my hunt for the day and went to retrieve my arrow only to find that it had been broken. Now there was no blood on the end of the broken arrow and the deer did not act like she had been hit. I walked about a hundred yards in the direction she headed but never saw blood and never did find her. It has me puzzled because I could not find the other half of my arrow. The shot angle was not steep and it appeared when I shot to fly over her back. I am thinking of going back tomorrow and looking some more. What are your thoughts

Arrows can go anywhere or split in any direction when hitting a limb! And 9/10 times a deer with its tail in the air is not hit.. I wouldn’t think anymore about it, and scratch it up as a miss.

What end of the arrow did you find the fletching or the broadhead end?

God Bless,

I’m the resident expert on misses when it come to bow hunting. Sounds like a clean miss to me.

I would have been back in that tree this morning then got down about 10:00. She would have came back. You didn't scare her if she went a few yards then trotted off.

I retrieved the nock end of the arrow, there was no blood. I have hunted twice in this HW bottom and both times had a shot at deer. The bad part is I am 0 and the deer are 3. It is really discouraging when I can hit so well during practice. I had a large opening to thread the arrow through but I guess there was something in the path of the arrow I did not see. I may try and go back in there next Sat. if it does not rain.

Had the same thing happen 4-5 yrs ago. Wide open shot at the biggest buck I had ever shot at with a bow. Let the arrow go heard all kinds of racket and watched my knock and fletching hit the deer and bounce off. I could not believe what I just saw. Went back the neck day and shot a doe at daylight knowing that big buck wouldn’t be back. After killing the doe I sat there and sure enough at the same exact time I had missed the day before he shows up and I smoked him.
