Crazy bow hunting statements! - 11/07/11 01:06 PM
Let's have a little mid season fun with this one.
Here is one of my favorites.
"My bow shoots 1 pin zero to 40 yards. I can hold dead on out to 40."

Re: Crazy bow hunting statements! - 11/07/11 01:26 PM
One I heard planting fields in a club this year, " yea I been practiing a ton and feel confident at long shots to ( me and another guy was talking about how we practice at 40 and 50 yards on a regular basis like 5 times a week ), I can keep all my arrows In a pie plate at 30 yards most of the time". I wanted so bad to tell him practice practice practice but I did not want o sound like I was bragging that he needed to shoot some more if he's gonna stretch it to 40 and 50. Much less 30.

"My bow is so fast a deer doesn't have time to jump the string".
This one cracks me up. Since the speed of sound is over 1,100 fps. Don't know of any bows that fast yet!

elkhunter, I can pick up my compounds after a year of not shooting them and shoot nearly as good as when I last shot. Not so with stickbows. But then I've been shooting bows for 50 years.....kinda like riding a bike....

Re: Crazy bow hunting statements! - 11/09/11 12:32 PM
compounds are like a 22 rifle with a peep sight to me. Put the pin(front sight) on the target, use good form, and shoot. Same reason I find that I can teach someone to shoot a compound pretty darn fast.
I suspect that anyone who has shot some kind of bow for 20 years can do the same as me. Weekly stickbow shooting absolutely helps my compound shooting. I just don't find compounds "fun" to shoot and so don't. I do hunt with them sometimes.

Re: Crazy bow hunting statements! - 11/09/11 02:29 PM
I've a good friend that does this. He used to shoot for PSE and High Country. He lays brick and block for a living. Got bad shoulders. Can only draw a bow back bout 2 times, even after surgery. He'll shoot 2 arras a day starting bout a week before season. Kills a nice buck and bout a dozen does every year. But, he is the exception.

Axle to axle length doesn't have squat to do with drawlength or a person's height, you idgit.

Are the regular 1/2ac fields to expansive to bow hunt?????

I hunt with a recurve (no sights) and I have to start shooting a month or so before the season to feel comfortable on opening day. 20 years ago I had to start shooting in July to be ready.

Re: Crazy bow hunting statements! - 11/12/11 02:51 AM
This one actually happened to me. Many years ago, 15 or so, I was hunting and a doe comes in close, less than 10 yards. I draw, put the pin on her and release.....unfortunately I was really focused on making the shot and not where the lower limb of my bow was pointing, mid thigh. I walked with a limp for a few weeks, that doe ran out about 60 yards and started blowing for 45 minutes
