Single pin difference?

Single pin difference? - 01/10/19 11:36 PM

So after missing some critters with my bow, I have really wanted to sell it and get a crossbow so that I can still archery hunt, but have the best chance at making a kill shot Everytime. Well my bow is not selling for anything close to what I want so I'm thinking about other options.
I have trouble seeing the deer through the peep and is why I was missing deer. My first thought is to change to a single pin or a pendulum sight instead of my fix multi pin. Other than that maybe changing to a thumb release, but I don't feel like the release is my problem. What say ALdeer?

I'd make necessary corrections to the set-up
I'm no expert but, before I'd decide on anything I'd make sure the bows set to your proper draw length.
Also, there are different size peeps, may wanna bigger peep.
As far as the single pin, we shoot Black Gold Ascent Verdicts and love them. Opens up the sight picture. There are 5 of us that at least elk hunt a little bit with each other and all using the same sight.

I had a spot Hogg for years and sold it and went multiple pin this year and damn I over thought that situation

Going back to single pin as soon as season is over

Single pin all the way if can swing it. I typically will set mine up a inch or so high at 10-15 yards and typically still right wherei suppose to be at 40 has been my best luck. I try to take the thinking part out and seem
To shoot much better

I run an HHA Optimizer King Pin (KP-5519) with an 1/4" (need to measure, but it's pretty big) peep sight. I like the larger inside diameter sights a lot. I'm not an archery expert, but my accuracy greatly improved with that sight and peep sight setup.

I hunted with compounds for 30 plus years, tried just about everything in the way of sights and finally settled on a single pin and shot that for many, many, many years with great success. But I didn't have the false notion that I could shoot deer like shooting at stationary 3d targets at 30, 40, 50, 60, etc yards which seems to be all the rage. Single pin works best in the hunting woods and is simple, sight it in for whatever yardage you want as spot on and understand your arrow trajectory.

Or, get rid of sights all together and shoot instinctively, sure has made shooting a bow a lot more fun for me after all these years.

My single pin is real close to dead on from 10 to 28 yards. pretty much as far as im gonna shoot a deer anyway. Crossbows are so loud I would expect you would miss and bad hit more deer with them than a compound.

Do you know what size peep you have now? You can get several different sizes, I think mine is 3/16” ID.
Cut through the cove over to Gurley and check another size out at Backwater. (256) 776-9109
He should be open tomorrow

Yeah I know Chancey. My bow actually at his shop trying to he sold. But since I can't make any money off it. I'll save my money and try again after some changes. The bigger peep and single pin are the first changes to happen.
