Like the looks of the Traverse, think it'll be a good shooter. Not sure about the tx-5 though. Seems they are just competing against the successful triax and you only gain 2 fps.

I like the Vertix and the Tranverse. I really like the way they corrected the grip angle on the new bows. Gives you more of a medium to high wrist grip. I wound up putting a high wrist grip on my Triax.

I thought the whole point of the Triax was to be a shorter axel to axel version of the Halon, and now we've got the Vertix which is a longer ATA version of the Triax.....so isn't that just a halon with a fancy vibration dampener out front?

Re: Mathews 2019 lineup - 11/13/18 08:32 PM

Looks like a halon 2.0 essentially but I think it will be a great bow.

Re: Mathews 2019 lineup - 11/13/18 08:57 PM

I don’t know what it is, but the Triax shoots smoother than the Halon and Halon 32. That fancy dampener on the front works. Look at the new Hoyts. They copied it.

That dampener does work really well. Hard to believe that one little thing made that big of a difference but it did.

Guess I’m going to stick with my 1993 High Country

I’m not a Matthews guy (at least for now) but the vertix and triax look like the same bow side by side

Obviously, because Mathews only has one “T.”

I'm off for the next two weeks hopefully I can get out the bow shop and check them out. I have it narrowed down to Hoyt, Mathews, or Elite, I try to shoot them all if I have time.

Not sure which exact bows you're considering but, hunt of the day has carried mathews, bowtech, and pretty sure elite several times over the last few weeks. If not elite, it was prime, not sure which

I don’t have a specific model or brand really but out he ones I’ve shot I tend to like Mathews, Hoyt, and Elite. I haven’t shot a prime yet but I will beige I buy. My hunting partner has been a life long Hoyt shooter and recently bought a Prime and says it’s the best bow he’s ever owned.

the tx5 is much faster than triax the reason it ibo's lower is because ibo is based on 30in draw because it only goes to 29 they down grade ibo speeds mine is set on 65 lbs 28 draw with rzs its shooting 225 with nockturnal and 100 gn head

225? Or 325?

Re: Mathews 2019 lineup - 06/06/19 10:39 PM

The reason the TX-5 is faster is due to it having a 5” brace height vs. a 6” on the Triax.

Re: Mathews 2019 lineup - 06/09/19 04:05 AM

Not a whole lot of difference in a 5 or 6 inch brace height

Re: Mathews 2019 lineup - 06/09/19 03:17 PM

1” of brace height makes a lot of difference on a bow.

In the speed, forgiveness or both?

Re: Mathews 2019 lineup - 06/09/19 06:37 PM

Both, more on speed.

Shaw isn't IBO measured using an arrow that is too light for hunting?
Posted By: Shaw

Re: Mathews 2019 lineup - 06/09/19 08:45 PM

IBO standard is 70#, 30” draw with a 350gr. arrow and no accessories on the string.

Re: Mathews 2019 lineup - 06/09/19 09:10 PM

How much does a typical hunting arrow weigh?
Posted By: Shaw

Re: Mathews 2019 lineup - 06/09/19 10:19 PM

Average is probably about 425gr.

Re: Mathews 2019 lineup - 06/10/19 12:44 AM

Archers used not to want a bow with less than 7 inches of brace height and would not think of trying a 5 inch brace height bow. If you can shoot a bow with good form and are consistently shooting good at long yardages. Then you can shoot a 5 inch brace height bow. I still shoot an 80 pound bow on occasion. The technology of the early bows barely broke 220 fps. Newer bows easily break 300 fps. and more. IBO speeds published by manufacturers can be hard to obtain. Its somewhat of a fable unless you are willing to shoot an very light arrow.
