New bow Recommendations - 08/29/18 02:57 AM

Not looking for so much speed. I have been a bow hunter but have not fully committed to it like most. Usually only break it out a month before September and start shooting. I have an old paw but I’m in the mArket for a bow. Thanks
I really like the idea of Matthews no cam but they discontinued. Have been looking at Triax but heard mixed reviews. Looking for honest rec. and not a sponsored ad.

I shoot the no cam HTX and I love it. I had a halon 6 but sold it and kept the no cam. The no cam was smoother and it pointed better for me. Sure I sacrificed a little speed in the end but I think it's absolutely worth it for the smoother, quieter, more forgiving bow. You can still find some new no cams out there, I'd look around.

I shoot a mission eliminater that is about 10 years old. It is accurtae fairly quite and punches through any deer I put a good hit on so I'm not currently in the market. But if I was Hoyt is the first brand I'm gonna try. With all things, I look at my price range and then within that range I got shoot or try several different brands. At that point I believe it is all personal preference. Cause in the same price they will all be very similar.

Elite synergy, no cam, pse evolve, pse bow madness, Mathews drenalin, bowtech carbon series are all bows that I have shot and liked.

Bows I did not like were pse stinger, pse brute series, Mathews halon, Hoyt charger, mission series by Mathews.

All of them will stack arrows and kill. Those were just my preferences.

This was my experience comparing the two Mathews as well. The halon was obviously faster but the no cam had the best in terms of draw and feel for me.

With the exception of a two year stint with Hoyt, I’ve shot Mathews bows since 2000. I currently own a NoCam HTX and a new Triax. Both are very quiet, easily tuned and good shooting bows. But to me, the Triax is the best bow Mathews has ever produced, period.

I have a Bow Madness (a 2013 model I think) and I love it. It has killed every single deer I've shot at with it.............all 1 of 'em! rofl

I’ve been bow hunting for 26 years and I’m on my 6th or 7th bow. I’ve always found a bow that I shot well and stuck with it. I went out on a limb and bought a Mathews Creed from Shaw just because.. even though the 8 year old BowTech I have shoots great and I couldn’t be happier. As others have stated find one you have confidence in..

Re: New bow Recommendations - 08/30/18 02:30 AM

Recently shot the Triax, PSE Brute ( older model ) and New breed - Was helping my father look for a new bow. After shooting several we actually ended up going with an Obsession K-34. He shot it and it just really fit him. When I shot it I was really impressed with how dead it was on release. Rivaled the Triax in that regard. Probably not as fast but a great bow for a pretty good price.
I shoot an Obsession as well ( 2016 model Pheonix ) and I love it.

Nichols is the first place I ever saw them and I haven't been able to find them anywhere else local.

Re: New bow Recommendations - 08/30/18 05:14 AM

Up until I bought my Triax I thought the old Mathews Switchback XT's were as good as it gets for a pure hunting bow in my book. IMHO they never topped that until the Triax. I'm that impressed with mine. I'm itching for October to get here now so I can get some blood on it. My 2nd choice would be a NoCam HTX. I really liked the one I had as it was very smooth. But having a little more gas with the Triax is nice

Re: New bow Recommendations - 08/30/18 11:18 AM

I was in the market for a new bow this summer and shot several 'top of the line' models from different brands. The Triax won for me, hands down. Even with an IBO of 340+ fps, it did not feel like a 'speed bow'. Amazingly quiet and dead in the hands. Super smooth draw cycle. The PSE Evo 28 was a close second. The most disappointing was the Hoyt Hyperforce. I did not shoot a Bowtech due to distance to dealer and fear of their previous limb problems.

I tell people all the time a mathews outback and a switchback are 2 of the finest bows ever made, i love them even still today. The outback may be one of my favorite bows of all time and they can be had for very reasonable as they are an older bow. I shot and still shoot hoyts. I had a mathews creed and killed a buncha deer with it but it didnt agree with me. I really liked the the single limb mathews bows like the z7 and the heli-m. All of these can be had for reasonable.

sounds like you're leaning Mathews, but ... i'm the resident Bear guy & love my Bear bows; if I weren't shooting Bear, i'd check out PSE & possibly some of the Elite stuff ... there's an Elite bow FS in the Classifieds that's a great looking bow ... if I wasn't over-subscribed, I'd be checking into it for sure ...

I have a pretty "low end" bear bow but I love it and I can shoot it well. Kills deer pretty dead...too.

Re: New bow Recommendations - 08/31/18 06:04 PM

speaking of BEAR bows, in the old days before compounds "BEAR" was the bow to shoot, I got an invitation to go to the BEAR ARCHERY complex in FL. , we spent 3 days there, toured the entire complex, worked on bows, I had an old Jennings bow with a broken limb, I got to help build anew set of limbs for my bow, toured the "BEAR" musemn , PAPA BEAR was still alive, it was a great trip.

Go Matthews. Went from Martin to Diamond to Matthews and I'll never buy anything but a Matthews again! Love my heli-m especially with Shaw's custom strings. Made a great bow better.

Please know that Mathews has only one “T” when referring to the bow company.

Sorry. Pet peeve. Carry on.

I’ve never shot a prime but my buddy bought one and said it’s the best bow he ever shot. Normally I’d take with a grain of salt but that’s coming from a guy who never owned nothing but Hoyt and one elite.
