Rage Broadheads from an old PSE steel cable/wheel compound - 11/17/17 09:04 AM

I just got into deer hunting last year and decided to restring my Dads old PSE Precision Edge Series 5000CM Compound bow with the thought of saving money as I entered this new sport. A friend of mine gave me a couple of 3 blade rage mechanical broad heads. Since he swore by them and they were free I gladly entered the woods wielding them. I still haven't harvested my first deer; though, I did miss two small bucks last year. After doing some reading and talking with some friends I decided to go fixed broad head this year. I chose fixed to help where speed lacks with this old bow. Now I carry two of each broadhead but I was just curious what people's experience with rages were through slower bows. I did cut a rabbits head nearly clean off with the rage but that's hardly a good comparison to deer.

I would throw the 3 blade rages in the trash if it were me. They don’t seem to penetrate like the two blade. Takes more energy away when it hits. Slows it down and doesn’t penetrate as well which means it won’t pass through as well either. This is based off of myself and cousin sticking two deer one season with those heads. Big buck just trotted off with the arrow stuck in about 4 inches. Not the best shot placement but I’ve seen worse with much better penetration out of other broad heads. I thought they quite making the 3 Blade for a few years.
Just my opinion. We all have one. Whatever works best for you but I’d pick one and stick with it for consistency.
