I know my team mate just got back from there and said it sucked. EHD hit pike county real hard this year.

Are you sure? I think it was 50 some odd cases and they were mostly in Cook County. I know they had a bad case of it, but it was 5 years ago or so.

How the hunt go?

Struck out. Headed back now. EHD has just hit the area hard and we only saw one mature buck on the farm we hunted. Big change from last year.
We found several good ones that had been dead about a month.

FYI, I follow the Lindsey’s on social media and they confirm that EHD has hit Pike County hard. They are still finding dead bucks

Dang. I have a buddy at QDMA that usually tells me about stuff like that, but he hasn't.

Great dates to be there. Dont worry about the ones that died from EHD, you sure cant kill one of them.

But thats prime rut and whatever ones that ARE alive should be on their feet!

Good luck and stick a good one!

Best advice......sit daylight to dark. Take a sandwich and some snacks and stay in the tree all day.

Practice shooting your bow at 50-60 yards, assuming that you are bow hunting.

Bring a loc on and some sticks. They ain't a tree fitting to climb in 3 counties. Not one where you need it.

That's the truth...The wind can be brutal up there too, so I make sure to carry stuff for my eyes, after several days of hunting in high wind my eyes get Trashed, I carry some lightweight clear safety glasses too...just in case, I also carry several different grunt calls, and small and heavy rattle bags, Just in case OL BIG steps out and you want him to hear your calling......Happy Hunting thumbup

I have had the pleasure to hunt southern Illinois between McLeansboro & Carmi.
Its a whole different world of hunting than Alabama.

I'll be leaving on Nov. 3. Headed to Pike County. Those dates are usually good. The folks I've talked to say it's on fire right now though.

I'm positive it hit the area of Pike County around Milton hard about a month ago. I found about 1/2 dozen last week on the farm I hunted and I know of several others found near creeks and ponds on other farms.

Have a fun and safe trip, hoping EHD has not killed them all

Yeah, we bumped ours back to Sunday. Saturday and Sunday looks like a washout but the rest of next week looks good.
