Cahaba SMZ Question

Cahaba SMZ Question - 10/18/17 10:16 PM

I’m going to have just enough time to go in blind at Cahaba Friday evening. I thought about trying to find an oak dropping in one of the SMZs left where most of the hardwoods have been removed (which seems to be everywhere in Cahaba). I figure this might help my chances since other areas I hunt have oaks for miles and miles. Anyways, I’m trying to narrow down where to go using Google Earth. My question is, if there is a SMZ through a 1 or 2 year old clearcut, a SMZ running through thick but young pines, or a SMZ running through more mature pines, do you think one area would hold more deer than the other? Maybe there are too many other variables to consider.

Thick young pines would be my first choice

I have seen most of my deer out there close to young thick pines.

thumbup Thanks. If you're killing all these deer at Cahaba, hope you've left some for the rest of us! grin
