white oak dropping? - 08/23/17 11:27 AM
checked my cams yesterday and out of 105 pics ( not bad for public land I dnt think ) I got one little buck and the rest were does minus a few blanks. decided to move the cameras because i need more buck pics and found a white oak that was beat to death under its canopy. 7 piles of dropping and tracks everywhere. the kind of tree you want during bow season but I dnt think I've ever found one this early in the year
I thought maybe coons and squirrels are knocking them down but idk. I put a camera there and put a camera on a tree that was just like this in Oct last year. it had 3 acorns on the ground that I found. is this normal in your experience or has the cool hot cool summer screwed up some oaks... or maybe it's the eclipse to blame

Lots of them in the trees at our place but not much sign of them falling yet.

Idk then. I just hope it's the only one for now. I hate bow season when I can't key in on a hot oak tree

If it's one tree could be birds. I've seen a small flock home in on one tree and make them fall like rain.

Crack it open to see if it's ripe. Probably early.

Found a sawtooth with just 3 green acorns under it on Cahaba WMA yesterday. Boy those things really jump out at you when they're green.

I will say the top of the tree was mangled like it had been damaged one or two seasons back, don't know if that had anything to do with early drop? Seems like I've heard a tree under stress or dying will produce more and earlier, don't know if that's true or not.
