Found a home made version of one of those on our property line last year. It was around a huge oak tree and they had 3 ratchets attached together to wrap the tree once. Looked like a death trap if I had ever seen one.

This is a VERY popular stand in Texas. I know several folks out there that rave about them. They work exceptionally well in the oaks of the hill country.

kelk, there was a company in Texas that made one very similar to platform with a boat seat on it. One of the most popular in Texas is an old tractor seat. East Texas is different the trees there are much like ours in Bama. I just can't see any sense to a loc on that is 30 pounds.
