Oak trees are where they'll be today for sure. Wind is howling down here.

Re: LFTT 10-21-16 - 10/21/16 05:36 AM

About to head in to a spot with some oaks on the edge of pines. Its hard to get in there quiet so I'm going to go REAL slow.

Re: LFTT 10-21-16 - 10/21/16 06:09 AM

I'm settled in, feels decent for once. It's bright in these woods. If I was in Winston county I could shoot a giant right about now

Re: LFTT 10-21-16 - 10/21/16 06:19 AM

I'm settled in a oak tree along a dried up creek bed and getting hit by acorns. Hopefully something comes by to get the rage this morning!

The wind should mask your noise, just walk in there like you own the spot Jono. Good luck hope you see some today!

I feel like I'm sitting on a board. First time I've used this stand in years and I'm definitely gonna have to add a seat. In other news, windy and no deer so far

Weather app says NNW wind but I'm getting a hell of a lot of east and it's the kiss of death for my chances.

Jono a great bowhunter I knew(rest in peace Greg) raked the paths to some of his stands. Just go slow and watch your step. Hunt safe

Albert's gonna wind you today with all this blowing action.

But he won't know where you are and he'll wander back around giving you yet another shot.

Re: LFTT 10-21-16 - 10/21/16 10:59 AM

AHHHHHHHHHHH

I had 4 does come in at around 7:30. One peeled off from the others and I had an open shot. I took a deep breathe....aimed....AND FORGOT TO BEND AT THE WAIST. For as much as you guys harp on people, and as much as I repeat it in my head...I guess I got too excited and forgot. Literally cut hair off the does back. Sat there sick to my stomach for ruining my chance....then I realized I wasn't sick to my stomach because of that, my insulin pump had been ripped out on the walk in! LOL So I'm back home, still excited I even got a chance at a shot, hoping to get another shot this evening or maybe tomorrow morning.

Re: LFTT 10-21-16 - 10/21/16 11:17 AM

I got skunked this morning. Did a little more walking around and found a better tree for rifle season and a car hood size scrape about 75 yards away. That spot is a definite winner for the rut. Can't wait to hunt it again but I'm gonna stay out of there for another month probably. On to the next bow hole.

Re: LFTT 10-21-16 - 10/21/16 11:31 AM

Honestly, I was glad that I saw some deer that close that had no idea I was there in the first week of the season. Made me feel better about what I've been doing. So here is a question, they obviously figured out something was there...should I go back tomorrow or do you let stands "rest" for a day or two? Never had this situation...new to it all.

Another 2 does came in about 45 minutes after, but I never had a shot on them. Its a natural funnel that funnels right into a huge oak...I think i found my spot. at least for now.

I've done that for years. I use a blower now. Only way off the road though, I hunt public land ya know.

Juno Go back and hunt it again tomorrow. You should be fine. I actually did something similar a couple of years ago and shot the doe I gave a haircut later the same day.

Re: LFTT 10-21-16 - 10/21/16 02:10 PM

Well I finally made it into a stand. Kids and work have much more say so in my hunting schedule than what they use to. But I'm here and just as excited as if it were opening day. I'm with Jono this year, no recorded bow kills in my hunting career either so here we go again.

Hunt safe and smart. It will happen, trust me there is nothing like getting one close and running a stick thru them. Good luck !

Don't pull out your insulin pump again. We don't need you passing out up a tree. You better have someone who knows where you are.

Trying a different spot this afternoon. Down in a swamp with a running spring keeping it filled. Little spot of hardwoods mostly sweet gums with cutover on both sides. Hoping one gets thirsty this afternoon. This pine tree is rocking but not to bad

I always show my wife on a map where I'm going to be and also our club has a pin board so everyone knows where everyone else is. I have stuff on my person at all times, but most of the time it is just safer/easier to go home and fix the problem. Putting my pump back on in the woods isn't the most sanitary thing, but I can do it if it really came down to it.

I did the same thing. After sitting here for an hour and half checking emails and sending some texts. I looked down and realized it was in my pocket. But I got it on now. Just waiting on the wind to die down a little

Hung a lock on at lunch over looking a corner of a peanut field. Thought about doing a little same day hang & hunt but I had another stand to put up and was sweaty and stinky by the time I got done. I do believe I will be there in the morning though. Good luck this evening fellas.

Who's going to be cold this afternoon? I was screaming hot walking in. Now I'm in the shade with a beautiful north wind, and I've already put my one extra layer on! Hopefully it will keep me on my toes cause I'm first time in a new spot that I've been saving for the perfect conditions and it's pretty close right now. Maybe ole big boy will read the script.

Settled in a while ago with Eli in a double set and we had a fox sneak through. Pretty cool to watch. Have some does on camera in this spot hopefully he can at least see a deer this evening. This is his third hunt of the year so maybe it will be lucky.

Good luck! Got in the stand about 20 mins ago, gotta help my brother and his wife put of some stuff up for a big party they are having tomorrow so I may only release on a good buck but I've been hunting since sept. 3rd in KY, September 24th in TN and AL since it's opened and haven't pulled the trigger yet so if a big doe comes in range I may sling one and bring her the set up decorations.

Re: LFTT 10-21-16 - 10/21/16 06:00 PM

I'm hunting a hardwood bottom, next to a clearcut and a pine thicket. Just had a buttonhead walk in front of me. His right ear curled over at the tip. Checked cameras at noon and had a good 10 pt in front of one this morning around 9:17.

Well, if it's going to happen today, it better happen soon. Wow, just had an owl hoot very close to me. I about jumped out of my skin!! Good luck everyone!!!

No not that I could see. I never have and won't shoot one if the have fawns with them. Maybe she had some somewhere but I didn't see them. Any doe shot in bow season may have them

I think I was 18 or so when I got into it. Hunted for several years then took a 13 year break chasing ducks. Then got back into deer hunting and haven't looked back. As far as bow hunting, I started getting serious with that about 5 years ago. I've only taken 1 shot and that was last year. Sailed over his back about a foot at 30 yds. I love bow hunting because of the challenge. I just haven't connected yet. But I will.
