Re: Anyone Ever Killed This While Bow Hunting?? - 10/10/15 08:34 PM

No reason to kill that unless you're eating him. It's prolly older than you are.

Imo why kill animals for the heck of it, just ammo for the anti hunters out there . then again I love to deer hunt but don't shoot 90% of the deer I see. Maybe my wife's right I am becoming a softy. lol

Can you provide a regulation/law number for this please? I've never read or heard of this before.

God Bless,
David B.

I've heard of no such regulation either. It's illegal to shoot a deer with one. A hunting tip has to have a minimum weight of 100gr. and if I'm not mistaken a minimum cut of 7/8". Maybe Troy will see this and chime in.

Broadheads for all arrows or spears shall have a minimum weight of 100 grains. The minimum cutting diameter for any broadhead shall be 7/8 inch. Expandable broadheads shall have a minimum 7/8 inch cutting diameter after expansion of the broadhead. The minimum thickness for fixed blade broadheads shall be .015 inch, and the minimum thickness for expandable broadheads shall be .025 inch.

I was just fixing to post that. But the question is, will they ticket you for having a field point in your quiver? If so, they could ticket you for having a judo or blunt point as well. I know a lot of trad guys will carry a blunt point to shoot small game with. I guess it would depend on just how much of a hard nose the GW wanted to be. I used to carry a field point tipped arrow just to take a practice shot before climbing down after a morning hunt. I haven't done it the past few years though.

You will not get a ticket. Know from experience. Believe it or not some GW have common sense.

Re: Anyone Ever Killed This While Bow Hunting?? - 10/10/15 11:58 PM

I thought in TN it was illegal To carry field points but I am not certain. I like to carry one arrow with a blunt tip for stump shooting as I walk out.

That only applies to deer and turkey. Not turtles.:)

I taught my kids you don't kill it unless it's gonna be eaten or it's a yote. What a waste!

I agree that most wardens wouldnt ticket you but he could if he wanted to

Re: Anyone Ever Killed This While Bow Hunting?? - 10/11/15 05:58 PM

Well I guess he could arrest for for anything he could make up too.

Thee is no law/reg that says it is illegal to carry any kind of tipped arrow while deer hunting. Just that you cannot shoot a deer with anything but a legal broadhead.

I know that they will ticket you at Pelham Range for having a field tip in your possession while deer hunting.

Barb was helping a guy track a deer last year
and while they were in the woods he showed her
a squirrel that he has got bored and shot.
She stopped right then and wrote him tickets
for the field tip and squirrel hunting without
a permit.
She told this herself.

this is not a State law or reg, Pelham range rules do not apply to the rest of the state.

There is no law or regulation prohibiting you from having a field point on an arrow or in your possession while hunting. You're supposed to use a broadhead for shooting a deer, but having a field point with you or on an arrow while you're hunting is not illegal.

Show us the law/regulation that prohibits you from having in possession a field point. Not shooting it at a deer, but having it in possession.

Holy mother of Fred Bear, I've been an outlaw for decades with field tips and judo points! grin

Oh, wait. I'm not the only one. Ain't illegal to have a field point. Just don't shoot a deer with it.

I know it's not in the state regs. Just stating that as crazy as it sounds it happens.

Re: Anyone Ever Killed This While Bow Hunting?? - 10/13/15 06:51 PM

I guess you killed a turtle? Hmmmm... I spend WAY TOOOOO much money and time and etc... to risk my deer hunt killing a turtle. You must be ashamed or afraid of the law as your first post has been changed.

Anyway, I will shoot a coon or yote but I won't shoot a turtle. And depending on the time of the day, I may let a yote walk!
