DIY archery target for recurve ideas - 07/28/15 02:58 PM

I was just wondering what were some other ideas for a DIY target for my recurve, other than the burlap sack trick. Doesn't have to be beefed up for compound arrows and it needs to be portable in the sense that I can put it away when I am finished. I could buy one, but that's not fun.

Box filled with old clothes. Just cut out any zippers or hard metal buttons.

One of the most fun ways to practice is to get some Zwickey Judo heads and shoot water bottles or aluminum cans in the ward. As long as you have any grass the Zwickey will stop the arrow fast and it will be right on top.

Another fun game is a tennis ball on a string suspended in front of a couple thicknesses of old carpet hung on a wire or rope. As long as the carpet can freely swing it will stop the arrow well. You still want a safe background though. You can also rig this to be a moving target by setting the target on an uneven wire. You gust wait until it rolls in front of your backstop to shoot.

Then there's all kinds of stuff thrown in the air with Flu Flu arrows. You will need a few acres to do this one.

I've stacked cardboard together in a box. But I only shoot 40 lbs. it wears out but you can shoot it a lot. If arrows going too deep just add more cardboard. I love shooting water bottles with a rubber bludgeon point.
