ISO new bow - 02/22/15 12:19 PM

Looking to upgrade from my PSE stinger I need something with 27 or 28 draw. Any recommendations or anyone want to get rid of something in the 400 dollar range? I like a Mathews Lx I shot at the bow shop at 27 draw but he wants 450 and I think that's high. What other model would be similar to that I could get into with my budget.?

What do you dislike about the Stinger? Just curious, I know my son's stinger shot just as tight of groups as the big dollar bows at the last 3d shoot...

I shot well with it in the yard but deer have jumped my string a lot and the Mathews just felt like it fit and handled better

If you liked the LX, you need to try out a Switchback and Drenalin also. The LX and Outback are actually my least favorite Mathews bows. I never liked the feel of the cam.

Once you find out which you like, the classifieds at Archerytalk is a good place to find one.

I bought a switchback. Got it for 375 with 11 arrows, snark mongoose release, spot Hogg with a light, and case. The draw weight is 70 and pull is 28 1/2. Which brings me to my questions could I get it shorter and lighter and how much? It was a good deal and he gave me 200 trade value on my stinger so I thought I did good

That's a good deal. The draw weight can be adjusted down to 60#. To change the draw length you will need to change the cam out.

You can also find used cams on Archerytalk.

What Cam size do you need JCarter? I've got a few different sized Switchback cams that I would trade for your 28.5.

QDMA, what sizes do you have? I'm thinking about going up on mine. currently have a 29" on it but thinking about a 29.5 or 30.

sorry about the highjack JC, looks like you are looking for something smaller than mine anyway.

Thanks ODMA but the local bow shop traded me a switchback xt with a 27.5 cam and paper tuned my whisker biscuit and mounted my sight for me. I lost the quiver and the spot hog in the deal but had another off a old Parker at the house and boought the react from Trophy Ridge from him so I am all set. Just may need a string after spring when I get to shooting a lot. Buckets of Bows will treat you right located in Fort Payne and he really took care of me. So I think I did pretty good I am out 275 out of pocket cash now sporting Switchback xt, React sight, whisker biscuit, 11 arrows, a case, target, and assorted broad heads, and all.

I know I have 29" and a 27.5". I had a 30" but I think I gave it to Rick at Archery Unlimited. I've got 28.5" on both of my switchbacks...I like the short/compact draw for hunting.

It's for the original switchback...I think they changed up the cams and limbs on the XT, but let me double check that and I'll get back to you.

The original Switchback and XT use the same cam, but the draw lengths will be different. If you put a 28" XT cam on regular Switchback, the draw will be longer than 28". By how much, Im not sure.

Thanks Shaw for getting me straight. I haven't looked at an XT in quite a while, but I knew there was some differences.

Re: ISO new bow - 02/26/15 12:34 PM

Guy at bow shop told me XT wouldn't fit in that switchback and that is why he traded me. Guess it was his lost the XT was in better shape anyway

Re: ISO new bow - 02/26/15 01:36 PM

Same cam, but Mathews will tell you different. The draws won't match up. When I shot the Apex 7 I used an Apex 8 cam on it. Mathews also said it wouldn't work. To get the draw to 26.5" on the Apex 7, I used a 28" Apex 8 cam. There was a 1.5" difference between the two. The Prestige used the same cam as well. There was a 1.5" difference between it and the Apex 7. The differnce between the Prestige and an Apex 8 was 3".
